Lately i have heard a lot of people say that they are "turning their horse/ponies away over the winter"

What does this actually mean?
Does you horse/pony have a certain amount of months off?
or
Do you turn your horse/pony away for aslong as you want?

Or am i totally wrong :p

I would love to know as the last few years i give my boy a month off in the winter months to let him chill and be a horse and then i bring him back into work.

Thanks In Advance
xx

Putting your boy out for a month in winter and letting him chill before bringing him back into work is turning him away.
People sometimes buy youngsters and turn them away for 12 months to let them settle before beginning work and backing them :)
Some people do say "letting them be horses" :)
Its not ignoring them if you still obv go down daily to check them etc which should be done anyway

Posh phrase for sticking it in a field and ignoring it..

Thats mine all year round then... lol only joking... but yeah it is basically when horse/ponies have a break from being worked... you hear it more often said about youngsters after being backed... but all horses can be turned away no matter what age... :D
