As in the title really ...

What does "spirited ride, suit experienced teenager or light adult" mean to you?

A forward-going ride, a nutter, or something else?

Would it put you off in an advert? How might it be better worded? Thanks.

Totally off it's tree

Do not ride without doner card and suicide note pinned to your hat.

Complete nutter. Ride at your peril. Write your will before mounting it.

Same here Shils! Wear a t-shirt with your blood group printed on the back or consider having it tattooed on your forehead. I'd cope with it by staying at home!!!!!!!

Make sure you have an up to date will, let your family know you love them, that you would like your body to be used for donor parts & mount said beast, before disappearing off into the sunset & ending up somewhere in Scotland.

Seriously, I'd say it was the sort of horse that needs a strong, confident rider & one that will take no bo£££cks from it.

Would never in a million years ride a horse that's described like that! even "not novice ride" puts me off completely - and i've been riding most of my life!

Aaagh ... IT'S MY PONY, I'M ADVERTISING FOR A SHARER.

She's a fast pony and needs a confident rider because she can pull, especially when jumping. Has NEVER napped, reared, or bucked and has only refused a fence on a handful of occasions in five years!

Elsewhere I have put that she is excellent to hack, on roads, box, shoe, clip, etc. and she has a very good competition/pony club background.

Friend told me to put in the "spirited ride" bit, and I have only had two calls, so wondering if I was well advised and from all these replies ... I'm obviously not! She's a great pony, and that's why I'm keeping not selling, just need someone with a lot more time than I have now my daughter has left for uni.

Gulp ... is "not a first pony" any better then???

"Not a first pony" is how she was described when we bought her ... my daughter was coming off a first pony and wanted to do some competing. We've had five fantastic years with her.

Think I have shot myself in the foot here, it's a small market ...

I agree with Elizabeth X would put can be forward going and can get a bit strong over jumps. That way your being honest and hopefully if you get any calls they wont be time wasters!!

If this is what you mean, this is what you should say. 'Not a novice ride' or even worse 'spirited' are phrases only used by dodgy dealers to describe killer stock just in case the bereaved family sue, and/or idiot owners who have bought the beast from dodgy dealer, and have managed to stay alive by not riding said brute at all.

Definitely don't put spirited ride. From your description she sounds like she needs a confident rider but no more so than other horses!

I'd put forward going/not first pony. That way people know not to expect a plod but at the same time, it doesn't make her sound like a nutter.

A lot of horses that are advertised as 'spirited rides' or 'not novice ride' you generally find is a loose description of an absolute nutcase! Not always, but generally

I disagree with the 'Forward going' this seems to mean a lot of different things to different people. I'd ask for an experienced rider to ride a fun horse who is fast against the clock jumping?

What do you think?

I ride a puller, and would describe her as a "forward" ride. To me, "spirited" means it's a nutter, and yes, it could well be the reason why you aren't receiving many calls.

Iif I was in the market, I would definitely enquire about a forward ride, NEVER about a spirited ride though!

Forward going, fun and fast against the clock are all accurate, in my opinion. Sigghh ... the language issue really mucks things up, and I have run this advert for three weeks now.

Think if we were still in the UK she would have been gobbled up by now. She's for loan rather than purchase, at least initially, I suppose this might also put people off.

i love the comments, their great.

having a pony like that, i would use the words fun pony, improve your riding, keep you on your toes, strong seat.

some people like plods or pushbutton rides, others do like the more interesting ponies

I consider a spirited ride as something very forward going, may put in the odd buck or rear and often jogs in anticipation of going fast. I dont think of a horse that naps as spirited- they are either insecure or cheeky- not spirited.

i love a "spirited" horse/pony. they are great fun to ride and you get a huge sense of achievment when you get what you wanted.
that said, i am a teenager

I would probably think it was a polite way of saying nutter!! my 1st pony was spirited and was a nutter!!

Change your advert IMMEDIATELY! It's definitely the reason you're not getting any calls!!

I'd start from scratch, rewrite it totally and add a new different photo. Otherwise people will remember the old advet and think you're being dodgy.

Whereas honestly, 'spirited' doesn't mean anything THAT bad to me, not when coupled with 'Suitable for competent teenager or light adult'.
'Can be cheeky' or 'Sometimes a little bolshy' scares the HELL out of me though....

A challenging ride, confrontation of spirits yours and his/hers, not a pushover!!! in other words complicated and not for a novice!!!!

Well I had a pony that could have been called "spirited" or even a nutter, but he never bucked, reared, napped and I never fell off him in all the years I had him. It could be a bit hair-raising at times when he got into his stride (!) but he looked after himself.

I won lots on him and was very fond of him. But we couldn't sell him as everyone thought he was crazy so we had to keep him till he died.
