...on a website it says the saddle I'm looking at is 'vss'...what does this mean? Its hard to tell how forward cut the saddle is in the pics.
Thanks

It doesn't mean "very slightly" anything because it's German.

Basically, "D" is a GP with a dressage tendency - longer flaps, less forward cut - and "S" is GP more towards sj with knee rolls and flaps set up accordingly.

So it's not Very Silly Stirrups then? As i was taught by van Rupen Stucken Steinberg Offelberg-Ham-Burger. I knew i should never have trusted him.

Almost right. A D is a dressage saddle. VSD is a GP with a dressage tendency. S is a jumping saddle. VSS is a GP more towards jumping.

And as tarrsteps said, its german, not very slightly anything!
German for jumping is spingend, hence the S. German for dressage is dressurreiten, hence the D.

Forgot to say that the VS stands for vielseitigkeit (versitility) sattel (saddle). So the german version of our general purpose or GP saddle is vielseitigkeitsattel or VS. Hence a VSS is a GP with a jumping tendency and a VSD is a GP with a dressage bias.

Well you may be right but when we had a saddlery shop we stocked Jeffries, Stubben, Farrington and Wintecs.
Each one of those manufacturers told us it was "Very Slightly"

Thats because they dont know what it really means and 'very slightly' conveniently fits! Lack of knowledge of their own industry im afraid!

Or they're pulling your leg. Or someone has pulled theirs.

Sorry about the "D" and "S" - I took the VS prefix as read, given the discussion.

I guess "very slightly" works well enough for the English market as far as understanding, but it is what it is.
