What does your 15.2 TB weigh?

we had our 15hh TB on a horse weigh and i was shocked as always used tape and thought she was roughly 465--485 but she weighed 548 on horse weigh

Oh wow! Thats quite a difference! I'm not even sure i did my tape quite right. I had it just on his round his biggest place- would that be right?

Not enough! But I don't think weigh tapes are that reliable, are you wanting to know for dosage? Or wondering if he has enough condition?

My 15.1hh almost full tb is around 550 on a weight tape. He is quite deep though.
The tape is used around his girth area and has one side for ponys and another for horses.

Neither dosage or wondering at condition! He's in shameful condition and i am wanting to keep track of his progress at getting healthy!

It also depends on build. Now bearing in mind that these are stripped fit race horses. Our dainty ones weigh about 410-425kg, our heavy set ones about 480-490kg on a Horse Weigh. They get weighed every week. When coming back in from their summer holidays - 8 weeks in a big grassy field doing nothing - they daintier ones weigh about 450-475kg and the heavier built one 510-520kg.

My dainty 15.1/2 weighs about 415kg on the weight tape, he needs to put another 15 kg on plus some muscle and then I'll be a bit happier :)

Would love to get him on a horseweigh out of curiosity from the difference mentioned above!

when i mentioned that i used a weigh tape before her going on the horse weigh they told me to expect around 15--20% more than the tape read --i suppose they were correct in saying this

they also said weigh tapes are ok but to take 3 readings making sure they stood square and measure around girth area making sure the tape fits just behind the front legs then average them out and add 15--20% on top

I'm really not a fan of weigh tapes. I don't think they give you an even vaguely accurate weight.

That's what I found as well. I put a weigh tape on my 17.2hh TB and it told me he was around 510-520kg. And that was him more than well covered with a good set of muscles on him. I know fine well that in the 4 years he got weighed every week racing he never went below 520kg (he ran up way too light after his races!) as a stripped fit racehorse on a horse weigh. After his hols he usually weighed in at around 570-580kg and I would expect him to be roughly the same now I have him home.

I have 2 TBs - 1 at 16 hands and 1 at 16H2.

The way I see if they are in good condition is by sight as each horse is different (seeing some rib is good for that breed) but if you are monitoring progress a weigh tape will give you a sense of progress, it's all relative.

Just in case it may help, one of mine struggled to keep weight on and someone suggested Readigrass as a supplement. I give him a food skip each day and it has really worked - plus it is his favourite thing so I am now very popular!

I've stopped using Readigrass as 3 of mine have choked on it, 2 tb's and a native. One was fed as is the other two were fed wet. It's a good supplement but I would never leave mine alone with it again.
