What does your choice of horse say about you?

My 12yo is good looking, intelligent, arrogant and spoiled. Really quite talented but when it comes down to it very work shy (always lame!)

My 4yo is a solid dependable sort, a bit thick, and on the whole lazy and uninspiring yet he is the one that everyone seems to want.

I have to admit my 12yo is my ideal horse bar the work shy bit.

Lazy sod when it comes to boring stuff, especially if physical exersion is involved. Mind is dictated by her stomach. Loves to be the center of attention and hates being ignored. Gives her all when she does something she enjoys, but will do it with her own twist! Gets a bit too excited when she's having fun. Has expensive taste, especially when clothes and shoes are involved

Can be a little sharp and unpredictable and knows how to tell the world that she's not happy with something! And she's a big dopey softy who seriously lacks common sense and spatial awareness.

Yep, like horse - like owner!!! Having thought about it we are worryingly similar

[ QUOTE ]

Highland ponies say fun, quirky, loves good food, sociable, self opinionated, maybe a little bossy, has a little bit of a stubborn streak if asked to work to hard and the rewards aren't good enough (ie the size of the bucket of feed
wink.gif
) can turn their hand to anything (again if the rewards are good enough!)

I would agree with that, unfortunately, in common with the Highlands, I am a 'good doer'

I have horses who vary greatly - one is extremely honest (Id like to think I am!), one can be a stoppy spoilt toddler (definately me sometimes), one can be a bitch (moi?!), one is a cheeky sod (probably...) and the last is a very happy chappie (Im pretty miserable). So I dont know what this lot all say about me!

The cob....

Laid back, mild mannered, gentle, good doer

,...... * most of the time *

however, has been known to be a bit stubborn with a wicked sense of humour which perhaps not everyone gets...

Yep..I'd say that me too

I don't know as I have three very different mares.
The first is the black Tb mare I've put a couple of photos of in the past - she's sharp, opinionated, and doesn't suffer fools gladly, but secretly very sensible and kind if she likes you.
My second is a black Shire x Tb I bought as a weanling - she's honest and kind but a bit overenthusiastic to the point of being hyperactive at times.
My third I bred - grey 3/4 Thoroughbred, 1/4 Bavarian warmblood, the most laidback youngster I've ever met, nothing phases her, or worries her. She is unbroken, but likes working things out for rewards.
So I suppose if I'm like any of them, I've got multiple personality disorder.

Apart from with my horses, my home life and taste is totally non bling/flash, yet I choose to breed coloureds and Trakehners, so I want eye catching colour, and movement, and of coruse with my Trakehenrs great beauty and intelligence. Maybe its because that is what is missing from my life

Well, I got the horse I dreamed of when I was 12... a monstrously large old-fashioned ID! I guess that says I was a grown up child.
He is solid, dependable and very friendly, but he is a secret worrier!

Ummm... that i'm lame, old, obese and worryingly underweight at the same time, I have an attitude problem and I generally do the opposite to what you tell me.

Nicceee.

The horse I want to buy (but can't afford)... she is my dream 'horse-of-a-lifetime'.

Neurotic, highly strung, obsessive about routine and panics at change, all flash and no substance, pretends to be energetic but is secretly lazy, uses stress and nervousness to get out of work but once focussed is a world beater. Shy with strangers, loving once she knows you. Greedy but doesn't put weight on.

Yep, I think that would sum us both up LOL

my mare is easily stressed, very neurotic, has roughly 1 brain cell, but is absolutely stunning to look at, very flashy, and super talented at jumping.

my gelding is laid back, lazy at times, greedy, but is quite handsome, and also a super talented jumper!

i unfortunately seem to have the dodgy bits from both, ie greedy, stressy, lazy! they're very different, but i guess they both say that i like good looking horses that stand out a bit!

Mins and I are very similar in that we're both quite impulsive and enjoy new and exciting challenges. And we're both easily bored.
Having said that, we're both quite lazy and don't need much distracting to get out of work, particularly if it doesn't excite us.
We both love being pampered and spoilt and love our home comforts. We do like routine I guess we're both a bit anal in that respect, but all in all I think we're both fairly calm and unflappable in most situations.
We are, however, both fairly clumsy and are usually covered in scrapes and bruises from our latest shenanigans!

But where I'm fairly reclusive and enjoy my own space and time (generally prefer to spend it on my own with him and the dogs), he is totally gregarious and inquisitive and has to be the centre of all that's going on.
He is VERY egotistical and very dominant with other horses and can be a bit of a sh*t with them- I do hope that's not a shared characteristic!

Oh and we share a love for chocolate too!!!

Probably that I cant make my mind up........!

horse no: 1 16.1hh ID x tb but more ID, likes to mother things, people and other horses but goes like stink if asked.

Horse No: 2 Chestnut Arab yearling colt standing 14.2hh at the moment, doesnt like change, knows if a different car is in the car park but is proving very loyal and is quite flashy, good looking and hopefully one day will make a good endurance horse.

Horse No 3: 6 month old appaloosa x black filly to make 16 hh bold, confident but still getting to know her as only just weaned.

Horses(shetland ponies) freebies taken in as I felt sorry for them, very timid at the moment but Im sure will come round...as my big grey mare is mothering them.

Likes to have a laugh at other people's expense!
Food orientated.
Not all there, quirky in a simle way yet loveable.
Easily bored.
Not the prettiest crayon in the box.
Lazy.
Having a bit of a porker moment before going back to uni.
Likes boys
smirk.gif
(although my gelding does seem to prefer geldings of the ginger sort)
Stubborn.
Head strong.
Lieks to test people's limits.

We certainly suit each other down to the ground I think!

Well, my ride is an exmoor. What does that say about me? That I don't aim high enough? I like to fly close to the ground? Ha ha ha!
laugh.gif

On a more serious note, he can get down all the deer tracks and mountain bike trails on the forestry, so we have lots of little adventures, which means that neither of us get bored out hacking!

Um.... I have no idea.

am attracted to cheap problem children??

1 x section a ( £1) uncatchable "big" I am ( breaks my heart as he is a nice, scardy cat desperate for contact underneath it all)
1x TB gelding (£1) miserable bugger spends most of his time either broken or trying to break himself ( but I adore him!)
1 x TB mare (£500) came with issues and now is a total sweetheart

What great replies! Thanks everyone!

I was thinking more about just breed/type rather than character, but much more interesting to hear about the personalities as well - and amazing how many feel they have chosen a horse whose personality is similar to their own.

(I managed to find a horse who is an even bigger show-off than me LOL! )
