Just a quickie really

Lyla pulled a shoe on Saturday , farrier came yesterday to re-fit :D. I found the shoe in the field so didn't need a replacement, just a straight put the shoe back on ... (3 weeks since last done, 3 weeks till next appointment)

What would you expect to pay ??

Thanks!

Sorry also posted in SY, thought I was somewhere different! :o:D

Mine doesn't charge anything, even if I can't find the shoe and it's been on a month or so. He also comes out within 24 hours
My old horse was a nightmare for loosing them so it wasn't one off -and definitely the horses feet as he shod all 4 (that I had at the time) and it was only this one with a problem.
I do realise how lucky I am with mine tho.!

My farrier $5, another livery at our yard, her farrier charges her $25 & she seems to loose shoes almost weekly! She's changing farriers shortly.

Nothing if I wait till he comes on thurs and Fridays . Then I do often shove him odd fiver extra cos one of mine is funny to shoe and is good at prancing about on 3 legs..

Thank You for all your replies :)

My farrier charged me £20 !!!

Which I thought was a bit much  but just wanted some other experiences before I may broach the subject with him

Did he have to make a special journey to put the shoe on or was he in the yard to do other horses?

He wasn't doing other horses at the yard, but I'm not out of his way in the middle of nowhere ...

ETA not expecting it to be done for nothing but I do think £20 is a bit much??

Its not like she even needed a new shoe as I traipsed round the muddy field to find the missing one!! Kinda wish I hadn't bothered!:o

Mine seems to vary between nothing and £15.

If you don't have the shoe, I think a quarter of the cost of the full set plus maybe a fiver for travel is about fair. Even if you do have the shoe, most of the cost isn't the metal, so I'd only expect it to be a few pounds cheaper. It's great that so many people get such good deals, but I think we're lucky rather than it being something to expect!

My farrier doesn't charge - has been called back several times - sometimes in area sometimes not - have offered him some money - says it's all part of the
service :D

£10 charge... and my silly girl pulled hers off the day my farrier went on holiday for a week... Grrr!! But to give my farrier credit, he came out on Sunday and put it back on after only coming back off his holidays at 4am Sunday morning, bless him...

In 12 years of using my farrier, my horse has only lost one shoe....and that was when she stuck her foot through a gate and pulled it off herself!! My farrier didn't charge me....

£20 without shoe and having to attend for that alone. Though he rarely takes it, especially(thankfully!) after mine pulled 6 in 6 weeks :o

I can't remember offhand what mine charges but will find out tomorrow as Madam came in minus a front tonight :D
I think it is perfectly reasonable to pay a fee for this as my farriers cover a very wide area and diesel costs must be taken into account. They are really good and nearly always make it out the next day for a lost shoe - some people on the yard have to wait a week for their farriers to come out and put a shoe on.

Mine made a special journey to put my horse's shoe back on after the vet took it off for suspected abscess. Didn't charge me and took the horse out of the stable and put it back by himself!! love my farrier!
