For the first time in 6 months i've actually had decent money left over each month for 'luxuries', and it made me think that my horse couldn't wish for anything else and i have nothing! lol

He has full matchy matchy wardrobe, with loads of spares, top of the range rugs, he gets professionally clipped, has a monthly massage - if he needs it or not, he gets the best food, his bed is alot bigger and more comfortable then mine and he gets more fuss than i do. I havent had my hair cut professionally for probably over 2 years  although i am able to do it myself to a degree!! I have about 6 pairs of jeans, maybe 10 decent tops and several going out dresses but only ever buy new clothes in the sales, I have a aching back but dont get it massaged, my mums a dentist so luckily thats free otherwise i wouldnt go, i need glasses (cant see the numbers showjumping!) but dread the thought of paying for glasses/contacts.

If boots/rugs/girth/anything for my boy are on offer i just buy it i dont even think about it - but if a pair of shoes i really liked were on offer i'd still really think about getting them!! x

So what do you go without but your horse/s get?

Know exactly where you are coming from on this one

Re the glasses, look for a specsavers voucher for an eye test for a fiver, then get the prescription and go on line. There is a site called goggles4u that does rather nice glasses for under £10!

Yeah i know what you mean too!!! My boy has a new rug coming this week which was a great deal on ebay......He doesnt really need it but never mind. Me? i would think twice before buying someone for me in a sale. lol. I have a ppi payment coming through in next few days and i already have it earmarked for my vet bill, clipper repair and anything else the boy needs (or doesnt need!)

My boy gets his back done more regularly than me (although I'll probably try to be good when I go back home and get it done more often). I'm the same about shoes/clothes.

Are we mad or what? :D

I can always find money from somewhere to buy the newest rug for him but can't ever find money when i need to buy tesco value food and fuel - unless its fuel for the horse lorry!! x

My car and lorry tax was both due this month, paid the lorry one first (i use it 3 times a month!) but havent done my car yet (used for 30 miles a day!!) Need to sort my priorities out i think!!  x

A decent carefully balanced diet rich in vits and minerals and no nasties. I on the other hand am more likely to shove something in the microwave or do something on toast when I get back from the yard.

A coat/rug in multiple numbers! My mum came over the other day and was asking me if I would like her to buy me a coat for christmas because mine are honestly waaaaaaaay past it (as are my jeans, all of my shoes/boots except for my yard boots, my jumpers) but I have my heart set on a nice bitless bridle so was going to be asking for money. You just know a coat is going to cost about forty to fifty quid and that just makes me feel sick and what whats me feel sicker is getting any type of clothing for christmas unless its pants as socks as I am in dire need of them every year! I tried to get my point across but she argued that christmas money should be spent onmyself not the horse. When she left I put up a status on my facebook account saying something like 'clothes for christmas=worst christmas present ever' and then tagged her in it so Im hoping she got the point! Lol!

I must admit, it does suprise how many people go without things I would class as maybe not essentials, but standard day to day items for their horses!

My horse wants for nothing - but he equally only has what he needs and my wardrobe is substantially bigger than his!

I am certainly not showing him this thread for fear he may demand matchy matchy items or numerous more rugs!

Er, I go without hay, chaff, straw, rugs, saddes and all sorts, which my horses have in abundance.

Unsurprisingly...

:eek::eek: You meany!!! Bet he'd run away if he knew other horses got matchy matchy items!! :D

However, I am slightly jealous that you are probably better dressed and a smarter looking owner than myself with my limited wardrobe! My horse is better dressed than me! x Think my horse cringes when I roll up with my sheep pyjama bottoms over my jodphurs before a show! Daren't buy trousers to go over the top but horse has three different rugs on before he even gets to the show  x

I was just thinking about this this morning.

Horse has...

New dogs bollox £2k+ saddle and numnah
Rambo Duos
TOTR all round hoof boots
Vets, physio, farrier whenever he might require them

I have...

Holey wellies
Aldi jodphurs
Stained and paint splashed tops
£25 winter coat (bargain  )
No money to go food shopping.

Hmmmm. Priorities. :o

New shoes costing £100 every six weeks and regular physic treatment.....

Only had a horse for 2 years and my family are really bemused at my xmas list. Requests often involved a 'really' and a quizzical expression followed by...could you send a link in an email and write all the details?

I know what you all mean! I feel guilty for going to primark to get a new top. Yet I'm happy when the new weather beta gets on sale for over a hundred. Mostly all my presents at Xmas are for her, except from my o/h who insists to treat me & not the horse. :)

Same, my boyfriend wont buy me anything horsey for xmas! Although he did just buy me a new personalised nag rags rug for £90 for no reason at all :D

Tbh, I think he wont buy me horsey stuff generally as he has no idea what anything is! x Last time i ended up with a foal size headcollar for my 17.1hh horse!! x Didnt have the heart to tell him!! lol x

My boys isn't spoiled rotten but has got a range of rugs etc, boots and new bridle and many saddlecloths (many eBay bargains of course :p)
However my winter coat is the one my granny bought me in year 5 of primary school and I'm now 21 :) it still fits somehow!! And I would never ever consider spending £80 on a set of shoes for myself, he gets that every 6 weeks :) plus feed etc whereas I have taken to not buying lunch and just taking whatever I can find in the cupboard until payday... When I have another large bill to pay off!
They're lucky animals really, hope he appreciates all my hard work lol

My horse gets new 'clothes', I last purchased clothing in February - a top and some linen trousers.

My horse has a pedicure every 7 weeks, you don;t even want to know what my feet look like!

My horse has a joint/hair/nail supplement but I wouldn't dream of paying out on one for me.

My horse gets her hair cut when appropriate but I am trimming my own firnge and the rest is getting long and straggly (haven't had it cut for a good two years at least).

She gets a clean bed every night, my sheets are changed every week.

She definitely sees the dentist more than I do.

A friend said to me the other day - 'Imagine how beautiful you'd look if you didn't spend all that money each month on animals'. She's dead right :)

Sometimes I think I'm bloomin' stupid!

You mean actual stuff/things! :D When I read the thread title - I thought that you meant 'get' as in understanding. I was going to answer navigation as I get lost all the time but she always knows where we are... ;) :p

I was hoping that someone owned a horse that understood nuclear physics, quadratic equations or even just understood the appeal of certain z-list celebrities that I just don't get. :) :) :)
