What does your horses name mean?

Well, it has two meanings . . .

Kali is a hindu goddess . . . also known as the dark mother . . . but as my Kali is a boy, that's probably not what was meant when he was named ;).

In Poland, though, where he was bred, Kali is a character in a well-known children's book . . . the character Kali is a young African boy/slave who is quite wily. Apparently it's an affectionate but slightly prejorative term in Poland for someone who's a bit of a con artist/make their own rules/looks out for themselves. My Kal is wily in that he's clever and is always looking for a way out when ridden, and his sense of self preservation is pretty strong . . . but he's far too transparent to be a con artist. The longer I know him, the more I realize what a very sweet horse he is . . . but he IS quirky.

My horse's name is First One. I think he was his mum's first foal (and his name was supposed to start with an F due to his year of birth).
My husband's young stallion is called Ahagar, the name of a mountain range in the Sahara. I think it is fitting as he is grey (as in snowy ;)) and as he is huge (17.2 hh already and not yet finished growing). This also means that I am literally like a pea on a mountain when I am riding him :D
 
Ashlene (Irish spelling Aisling) is Irish for 'dream'. Though sometimes she is more of a nightmare!
She is a grey conemmara x so think it suits her.
 
My horse is called trampas, after the character in the tv show the virginian, but it actually comes from spanish.

trampas = skulduggery, jiggery-pokery, hanky-panky, jugglery, monkey business

think it fits him! though he's not nasty at all. just a bit big for his boots sometimes!
 
Jeff's name, Jefertiti, derives from his mother - Nefertiti. All of her offspring have been something '-ertiti'.

Mister Laurel's big brother is Mister Hardy. Kinda self explanatory.

Kyle's name has nothing to do with his parents or where he was bred or anything, it's just random.

Gray Mountain - his family is named after things/people from films. He is a 17hh gray TB and his name comes from The Lord Of The Rings - ironically the Dwarven stronghold is the Gray Mountain lol! His sister is called Honey Ryder - from James Bond and she certainly lives up to the name!
 
My pony's name means both 'beautiful view' and 'well respected'. She is a gorgeous horse and everyone comments on how honest and talented she is. I guess it suits her B-)
 
Clutha, scots gaelic for the river Clyde
Arian Dawn, welsh for silver horse (she's chestnut, but she's bred from the Silver / Silvern prefix lines). Stable name, Pip, very tongue in cheek from 'great expectations'.
 
Trichromatic came straight out of the dictionary when we named my neddy - we wanted something 'tri' as she is a tri-colour and its meaning is 'showing 3 colours'. With hindsight I should have picked something easier as commentators seem to have a problem with it lol
PS at home she's called Petal!!!
 
A friend of mine bought a horse, and while he was trying to think of a suitable name he called him Temporarily George or TG for short. Horse was 8 yrs old at the time. Is now in his 30's and still called TG :D
 
Ronald (Ronnie for short) had that name when I got him... but I like to tell everyone he's named after Lord Cardigan's horse who led the charge of the light brigade into the valley of death and survived :D haha

'Bat Aviv', which, I understand means 'daughter of the harvest' or daughter of spring in Hebrew. She was bred in Israel. To me she is just supremely gorgeous so she could be daughter of anything, she is just a lovely lovely mare.

(Copy/pasted) Edward means "rich guard", derived from the Old English elements ead "rich, blessed" and weard "guard".

Or, of course it could just be the Scottish word for Chav haha! Non-Educated Delinquent, does sound more like him :P
