What does your horses name mean?

Cambrica Shaylee
Cambrica is the latin for a welsh poppy (she's a welsh and her mum's called Poppy)
Shaylee is gaelic for 'Princess fairy of the field' Ha - NOT

Jasper means "treasure bringer" in Persian which is definitely true in a metaphorical sense, sadly not a literal sense as he eats me out of house and home :p

Fergus means virility apparently. Dear god I don't know what to say about that

Darach is gaelic for Dark Oak. He's certainly metaphorically dark of soul and stubborn as a tree :p

My current horse is called Gambit, his mum was Purdey!

My previous Horse was Bramhope Final Seal - last foal of a mare called Royal Seal from Bramhope stud.

My daughters ID/TB Timahoe Tim, his sire was Timahoe Heather

My old cob mare was Bella short for The Belle Epoch - All the good times - And they were!

Mine is very complex...not sure you'll all follow.

Mare ACTUALLY means female horse and she is one.....

Told you. Complex.

My horse's name means

Precious - agree
Pearl - she is very round!
Calm - not in ANY way whatsoever
Peaceful - NO
Protected - Very!!! She's mollycoddled!!

Apollo means 'The destroyer.'
Unfortunately he doesn't destroy his competition.
*sigh*
I think the etymology of Apollo isn't quite so straightforward, but it's a great name - Apollo was one of the most important Greek gods, related to the sun, truth and prophecy, healing, music and poetry. He was also responsible for Achilles' death at Troy.
Ah why am I such a geek :p

I named my last filly Gravitas.

Gravitas was one of the Roman virtues, along with pietas, dignitas and virtus. It may be translated variously as weight, seriousness, dignity, or importance, and connotes a certain substance or depth of personality.

Has she grown up to match her name? Errrrrr.... nope :D
Wishful hoping on my part LOL.

I should have called her 'Sinner'.

Nemo is Latin for 'nameless' as we couldn't think what to call him. I have to confess to stealing the idea from another member on this forum though.

Searched meanings for Jester and it came up with the following:
'Well-known qualities of the name Jester are : Awesome, Bountiful, Curios, Elegant, Healthy, Punctual, Pure, Sincere, Thoughtful, Worthy.'

I think he is true to his name meaning :p

A quick google reveals my horse's name means "Man's Defender", must tell the other half, guess she does look after him so maybe it does suit her!

Kalief is a French misspelling of Khalifah as in gods representative on earth in the Koran. There is more but is a bit boring. K is an Anglo Arab so that is fitting.

There is also the Burj Khalifah in Dubai where my ex boyfriend works, the irony being that he hated my horse! Mwah ha ha!!

Enif - Epsilon Pegasi is the brightest star in the northern constellation of Pegasus. It has the traditional name Enif. The name "Enif" is derived from the Arabic word for nose, due to its position as the muzzle of Pegasus.

I think Enif was named this because of the marking on his face and nose. I so wish his full name was Epsilon Pegasi as I think it sounds lovely but the breed society never responded to me about changing it.
Considering he's an Andalusian I don't know why he too has an Arabic name!

Moorish bred Andalusian?

Awesome name...

Benjamin......Hebrew meaning "Son of my Right" apparently in the middle ages it was often given to sons whose mothers had died during childbirth......nice!

Turbo............... Origins unknown ( :D ) meaning............poo off a shovel!

I've had:
Isla - which means Scottish Island!
Roche -dunno
Ozymandias - King of Kings
Eeyore - donkey
Gillie - named after the Mother in Law, because she was a stroppy cow
Auslander - Foreigner
and Aladdin - cheeky little coloured pony, it seemed to suit him

My horses names:
Bella (means beautiful) yes it does suit her, she is easy on the eye, hard on everything else though :D Her registered name is Barney's Dancer. I don't know any Barney's so have no idea if she fits the bill as one of his dancers :D

Basil, I guess this is one of those quintessentially British gent names,so it does suit him. Of course the herb is also handy and compliments a lot of foods, so that suits him too. His registered name is Bijou Rock, he is small and he does rock so that suits him too :D

oh wait I just googled Basil and it came up as: (play /ˈbæzəl/; royal, kingly; has origins from the male Greek name Vassilios (Greek: Βασίλειος, female version Bασιλική) which first appeared during the Hellenistic period. Still suits him :D
