I posted a while back for ideas of what to run for the riding club over the summer unfortunately ive put most of them forward and have been shot down so what does your riding club run?

If you've put forward plenty of ideas and had them shot down, I would let someone else come up with an idea or two. They might realise then that is isn't as easy as it looks!

A winter dressage series and a summer dressage series
Last year they ran a spring ht (not sure if they are this year)
A showing, sj and dressage show in the autumn
And lots and lots of rallies with fab instructors

I don't have a riding club near me since I moved but my old one used to run -

fortnightly/monthly flatwork and jumping lessons
quadrille/dressage to music lessons, practises and comps/displays
cross country - training days, clear round, competitions inc. ODE and hunter trials

competitions - dressage, jumping, combined training, XC, ODE, gymkhana

Kids' activities - easter egg hunts etc
Beach rides
Outings to Olympia, Hichkstead etc.

Thats all I can think of for the mo, I'll try and dig my calender out and see if I've missed anything if that helps.

Not as much as we'd like to cos we can't get any volunteers to join the committee. We run an annual dressage league (10 shows), 3 outdoor sj shows in the summer, annual showing show, subsidised lessons a couple of times per month. We have tried running social events in the past but there has not been much interest in these.

That's a shame all your ideas have been shot down - it's always the same - new person/ new ideas doesn't always go down well !!

at our club we run an adult social ride - 'no pressure flatwork / jumping with coffee and cake afterwards and a chance to chat and gossip this was slow to start but ten months on - it's our biggest money spinner Plus everyone has a good time ! costs £20 per person all meet at a local Riding School use of menage / jumps / xc ( £50 hire for all morning) instructor we use our own RC instructor £50 for the morning we now have regularly 20 people turn up - more when not school holidays etc most we ever had was 32 !! hardly any organsing needed - RS has parking and all we need is coffee and the cakes are brought and donated by the riders This we run every Monday. It's fab fun !

We have something going most months except in winter we have -spring dressage series - 3 comps over 3 months. 2 shows a year, plus xmas dressage.

We have occasional training sessions SJ and dressage, SJ we have a beginers/young horse group as well as a session for the most experienced. They will however alter the jumps in the session to try to cater for as many people as possible.

The teams also go out and compete for the club as well.

The person who runs the Monday morning sessions I am surprised you have so many takers - nearly all of our members work full time and we would get very little response for something run on a weekday.

Our RC did a questionaire as well which is a good idea as then you can see what members want and if you do things that people want you end up with good attendence.

We have just had a meeting to discuss our Summer programme.

We usually have a three phase event, Easter dressage comp, SJ/Dressage practise evenings, WH comp, instruction with various people and as I am partial to XC, I like to arrange this aspect.

We also have a fell ride, and in the winter a marsh ride & Christmas SJ comp.

It is ideal for inexperienced and experienced alike. Great for introducing young horses to working in and around other horses without there being any pressure on anyone.

We brainstorm at the meetings for new ideas but new things aren't always well supported.

Some things are more supported than others but it always tends to be the same people that help out. It would be nice if more did their bit.

Our club usually has Spring dressage comps, this year they are including a dressage to music class, a hunter trials in May, probably a 'showing' show in the summer and a funride in the Autumn.

All year through there are lots of flatwork sessions and the occasional SJ and XC training sessions.

The hunter trials takes a lot of organising but usually makes the most money.

At the moment the only regular things our club does are the 5 summer shows. These include, dressage (prelim and novice), showing classes, working hunter classes, showjumping (up to 3ft) and a clear round/minimus.

They have in the past had a couple of combined training events and an indoor 1 day event. They ran a coach trip to olympia once, and have talks and demos when there is something interesting.
