On Saturday I'm due to pick up my beautiful bundle of joy a choc lab and I'm finding insurance to be more expensive than one of my horses insurance.
Those who have pedigree dogs, which insurer did you go through?
I've been told because she is a pedigree this is why it is so expensive, how true i don't know.

I have a pedigree German Pointer and pay £12/month (I think... ish!) with Direct Line. My SIL insures her Lab with Tescos for £10/month.

We did a search on a comparison website. Maybe have a go on one for those?

Don't go with the Kennel Club one. Their quote for me was £30/month!!!

I've got 4 weeks free insurance with KC and was going to call them for a quote but thanks for the warning.
I went onto a comparison site and strangely enough Argos came out quite good but I'd need to read the small print first.

Yes, I was given the 4 weeks free too. But when I enquired about it you have to sign up for the rest of the year.... So £30/month for 11 months!

We're with Petplan and I think we pay £20+ ish per month but it's the top, top, top, top cover!
Don't forget piccies of your new arrival - I have a chocolate lab who's now 7.5 yrs old, there are no puppies as cute in my, very biased, opinion!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your pup xxx

Just called NFU as I have my horse insurance and it was a whopping £25.89 per month.

I'll definately post pics and I will join your club Sarah1 in saying they are sooooo cute.

One insurance company I would recommend to steer well clear of is E&L. I had both my dog and horse insurance with them and from the problems I've had with my dog insurance I have moved my horse insurance! Petplan are one of the best insurers as they pay out on time without all the questions and they will pay out for the life of the dog - Something I wish I had now paid the extra for as my dog has been diagnosed with a uncurable skin disease that tablets would have kept under control for his life. Instead E&L only pay out for a year and then your on your own! so at the moment I am paying £250 pm for tablets which Petplan would have covered. They may seem a mpre expensive quote but should you ever be in an unfortunate situation they are there all the way :-) Thats who my pony is now with anyway :-)

I'm with NFU, £4000 vet fees per year per incident so if it is a reoccuring problem they still pay out, allegedly !

cannot recommend More than highly enough for Dogs - they paid out nearly £7,000 when Bumble Dog had her brain tumor and chemo - they still insure her, even though she is nearly 14 - yes I pay a higher premium but worth every penny.

I second this. My dog is insured by More than and for a good number of years they had paid me more in vet's fees than I had paid them in premiums!

yes insurance is a minefield.i have two pedigrees
im with halifax which unfortually the excess as gone up,theyve paid really well and ive claimed thousands with my other whippy which i no longer have

my other whippy is with homebase havent claimed as yet

a few of my whippy owners have argos and theyve been pleased with the claims

or alot of owner put a way a doggy fund which works for some
