what drug do people use to sell a horse that lasts for two weeks?
We have just bought a horse that was a poppet for two weeks, then went on a hack blind panic bolting and rearing.
It was so dangerous i fell off and it kept going.
It is a mare by the way, and in season, although left the other horses. What could it be?

Could be that she's in season... Could be the grass is finally growing, my normally sane and sedate boy is currently frightened of his own shadow with the good grass in his system, could be both. Of course, it *could* be that your horse was doped but (and this isn't aimed at you personally) I am rather narked of late seeing people assume this is the case when a horses behaviour changes. The question is did you have a vetting, and did you get a blood sample... That would be your answer to what if any drug was used. However, I'd be inclined to go with the more probably answers, grass and season. Perhaps you could pop her on something like regumate, for mares in season... She if this calms her. Also, ride out in company on hacks she knows to give confidence, perhaps have some lessons to help develop your understanding of each other.

I agree with queen bee, you have only had her 2 weeks, she needs way more time to settle, behaviour like that would I think be practically normal while a horse is only been in a new home for such a short time and being hacked out alone. it is spring and she is in season- no horse should bolt, but nerves and hormones can cause it. you need to be considerate and patient towards her, she may also feel sore- some mares do when in season.

I was pretty sure a drug could not have quite such a long lasting effect. she may have been quieter while taking in her new surroundings. my friends mare moved yard and was quiet and calm for a few weeks and then started playing up when she got confident and full of energy
