What electric energiser to get? Inter grated solar or separate

Hi, I have always kept my horse at yards with mains powered electric fencing but now moving to a lovely small yard without mains. I'm trying to decide whether to go for an energiser with battery topped up with a solar panel or just buy one with the solar panel intergrated? Any experiences? Thank you 😊
 
I'd quite like the new Hotline Firedrake - solar powered but you can also plug it into the mains to charge it! ATM I am running the Hotline Raptor, decent unit gives a good zap and can run from mains or 12v with a 6v internal battery for back up if the leisure battery goes flat.
 
Just google'd the Hotline Firedrake: agree it sounds very good but just too expensive!! Amazing how technology moves on. I only need to keep one horse contained who is usually respectful of the fencing (snorts at it when it clicks), but definately need some power in the fence to deter him just in case. I like the idea of using solar, but not sure if it's a gamble to rely on the one integrated unit rather than spreading the risk amongst the seperate components ( energiser backed up with solar panel). Was hoping for a decent modern set up for £100- £120?? Just a little confused with the technical terms of Joules and what size / power I'd actually need. I'm not planning on running a really long fence line, perhaps at most a pathway grazing set up in an acre ( whatever size that equates too??).
 
I got an energiser from Mole Valley and bought a cheapy £10 solar panel from Maplin and it's been working pretty well so far and I've been using it a few months 😊 A friend who has a built in one said hers shorted out if the ground was really dry I don't know why though.
 
So after a lot of thought decided to go for the Hotline Firedrake HLS 34 as I don't want to be carting leisure batteries about.

Has anyone used this system over the winter? How did you get on? If the 12v backup battery is integrated is it easy to replace when it eventually won't recharge. Looks a good system but for quite an outlay.
 
I got the x stop all in one solar energiser after recommendations on here and I absolutely love it. They are about 70 quid each and I got 2 of them. One for the bottom line and one for the top strand. It would be fine with just one I’m sure but I wanted a really good zap.
 
I have a Suregreen solar energiser that is fantastic. I really rate it! Also have the VOSS battery energiser with Solar top-up - also excellent! I always have a battery energiser + spare battery for emergencies
 
Wolseley Midge energiser i use with a 12v battery connected beside it. Its got a long range....2km? Or something like that.

I bought a second one off ebay when i extended my set up so you can find cheap deals on ebay.
