What else do you put on with an exercise sheet?

I have a thermatex quarter rug, which I use just with my normal saddlecloths no problem. But a friend recently gave me a 'full' wool exercise sheet which I want to use rather than my thermatex (and keep the thermatex for shows etc!)
However, it's very deep on Dan, comes right down to his elbows which is nice as it keeps more of him warm! Except means I can't put my girth through the saddlecloth girth loops and I'm worried it will move. Tonight I used it alone but it looks like I also need to put some new loops on the exercise sheet in the right place so it doesn't move either :P

Just wondering whether it will be fine using the sheet alone, or perhaps I should invest in a half pad just to use under it, preferrably one that would attach to the saddle D-rings?

Thoughts please!! (:

Have you got a double flap saddle? If so just fold it back in a triangle under the flap and girth up over the top - just reread and realised you like it to his elbows...so this prob isn't any good :)

I tend to use a saddlecloth under mine, then sheet then saddle. I tend to fold the corners by the elbow up and under my girth straps so it is well and truelly held there, so no slipping. As long as your saddle fits I wouldn't worry about pads under, I only use one as my saddle goes on several horses a day, so each has their own pad.

Saddle is treeless so it's both flexible in what I put under it and also doesn't need as much really I guess! I think I will just go with folding it back, this seems like a good plan :) Also going to see if I can fix some straps on near the top somehow to attach it to the D-rings... although I'm not sure how I'll do that but I'm sure I'll figure it out! :) Thanks!

I do the same sort of thing as the others, saddlecloth then sheet, fold the front corners up to meet at the spine and then put saddle on. If I'm hacking then I don't fold right back, just a little. I don't have a problem with movement or slipping.

I wear mine with a saddle cloth AND sheepskin half pad, and do the triangle folding thing too but under the saddle not between the flaps, never had one slip back only occasionally to one side whilst out hacking

I use a numnah then the exercise sheet with the corners folded up under the girth straps on my gp. So its put on then the saddle then when you put the girth on fold the corners up under the straps, its never moved this way.

Always use a pad or you will have to wash the ex. sheet or it will make the horse sore. Always turn the corners up so the horse can feel your leg either under the girth straps which holds it in place or under the saddle but then be careful that you don't get a pressure point. Make sure you put it well forward so it doesn't pull the saddle back. It is quite easy to put ties on the saddle pad to attach to the D rings.
