Hi. Have entered my first Le Trec competition at the weekend and have a couple of questions. What equipment is essential to take on the orienteering phase? Is there any kit which isn't on the required list but you would recommend I include?

Thanks for your help

I did my first one last month - had a great time.

I took : a bum bag containing a bandage(that could be used on you or horse, I took a new vetwrap) a hoofpick, string(for any running repairs), map marking pens, my mobile(turned off).
What I didn't sort out for me was a drink - OH thankfully found out route from organiser and met us halfway on the ride was I glad! So defiantly take a drink for you on the ride.
Also your fluorescents, I took my vest and hat band.
I also bought a compass and map bag.

Found this site beforehand too - very useful

The list of equipment should have been part of the schedule. You will be inspected and have to show everything, so don't leave anything out or you will get marked down.

Just thought - can you see the label on your hat to show that it is the current standard? It will be looked at.
I had to go and buy a new hat as mine was so tatty all the safety kitemarks weren't readable. I think that means that it needed replacing anyway, so I wasn't worried about that.
