My mare will be clipped out and last winter we ended up doing a lot of riding in minus temperatures so was goigng to buy an exercise sheet. I like the ride on ones as they seem longer/deeper and more of them. i am not sure whether to buy waterproof fleece lined one with reflective straps such as Weatehrbeeta or Mark todd or a yellow hi viz one. My only thoguht was if i am hacking in the dark a yellow high viz wont reflect and will stick out on the farm tracks.

what does everyone else have.

she is a sensitive half TB so does need one for winter.

I have a high viz mark Todd one - bright yellow with reflective strips, waterproof and has a fleece lining. Can't recommend it enough, stays exactly where you put it and you can be seen from miles away!

For me, I think you need both the hi-viz and the retro reflective strips, both are important in my opinion.

I have a variety, under saddle and cut outs, and I prefer the cut outs as Im not too keen on how some of them fit under the saddle.

I have an old colin cook thermalux one that has been customised by sewing hi-viz strips all round the edge. Fussy horse seems to like it - it stays put, moulds around the horse's back, it's a cutout so easy to take on and off, and now with its 'extras' is pretty bright too.

Nag rags, waterproof, fleece lined & has reflective stuff on it, mines wrap around as I don't like ones which sit under the saddle. I use mine for schooling & hacking. Wasn't the cheapest around but had mine 10yrs +, used every winter on fully clipped TB, washes well & still looks smart.

Witney wool, traditional Newmarket stripe quarter sheet as opposed to exercise sheets, under the saddle with the front corners folded.

Waterproof and warm.
I have yet to find anything to rival wool for doing the job in the wet or cold.

Mine are 20 years old, and will outlast me.

i have a rambo water proof fleece lined one and a lovely woollen navy and red quarter sheet. my ebay bargain cost about £15

I have a luna rider high viz yellow one, and it had reflective strips on the quarters and bottom of the tail bit. It's waterproof and fleece lined. Also use a cameo waterproof and fleece lined one in the school, or if it's just cold, mark todd one.

I have a cheap gee tac one I got from eBay. It is navy but has reflective stripes on it. Waterproof with nice fleece linng. I really like it .

Ditto..have 2 wool ones, one bound in red and one in yellow. Had 25 years + with fillet strings. Love 'em. I am sure some don't know how to fit them though. In my opinion one doesn't want loads of rug flapping about, just enough to keep back warm.

I am sure most will disagree!

My thoughts precisely. :)
I really don't like the exercise sheets that look as if stable blankets have been left on. Just a personal thing.

I don't! Tho the mice eventually ate mine in storage. Used to use it on my bed on cold nights as well (between horses, I'm not that gross!) Loved mine (along with my Witney Newmarket stripe day rug - excellent wicking qualities, wool) and even tho horseless I'd quite like to buy them again just to have them :o

I am addicted to exercise sheets ;). I have the type that go under your saddle flaps, or around you on really cold days (think they are sometimes called competition sheets!)

I have all sorts, including some I have made myself. I love my chocolate Whitney stripe wool one the most though :)

We have the equisafety 360 winter wrap around for hacking and I have a waterproof fleece lined cut out one that I use for warming up in the school, can't remember the make - they're a company that's relatively new to the rug market but the name escapes me :s

ETA I've remembered, it's Swish.
