I know, I know that complete foods are supposed to be complete so we dont need to add anything else but I must admit I do.

For both of my dogs I have fed fish4dogs complete diets for years and a couple of years ago I started adding their salmon oil in at each mealtime, mainly because I had been chatting to a lady whose dog had the most amazing coat and she recommended it, but also because one of my dogs is getting on a bit and anything that will help with joints has got to be a plus hasnt it ?!!

My friend saw me adding fish4dogs salmon mousse yesterday to 'disguise' the old boys heart tablets and told me that I spoil them too much. I started to justify my reasons about there being an offer on the mousses which I couldnt resist, blah blah blah but ended up thinking, sod it, if I want to spoil them by adding some extras, so what !!!!!!

Admit it, do you add stuff in and if so, what ??:D

I feed raw, but they get treats and yoghurt because they like it. They have pigs' ears as their main treat. I just shove loads of stuff at them and feed by eye and keep a check on the unhealthy stuff. They run anything off and the youngsters are skinny, frankly, so I probably, make up for that with extra stuff eg filled Kongs.

My young one is on raw so doesn't really count - he gets chicken carcasses, large bones, tripe, chicken mince, beef offcuts, whatever I can get hold of, if I am training he will get chicken mince or sometimes cooked chicken from my pocket.
He also licks yoghurt pots :p

Older one is on kibble and is very sensitive so I have to be careful, he'll get an egg in there, tuna, table scraps etc.
Fish oil is excellent for dogs, I would not stop feeding that.
My big fella swallows large tablets whole as he is a bit of a dolt but I have had others that would do anything to avoid the tiniest pill so yes if I could hide it with some food, I would! Split sausages and bread and butter were other tactics we tried :p

A lot of 'Complete' food are not complete, it is just a word, used as a marketing gimmick promoted by large multinational companies, dogs are not really meant to eat grains and complete foods are often full of them, full being the operative word as it is used as a filler :p

My 2 Dobes are on Skinners Duck & Rice complete but get sardines (tinned) twice a week mixed in, they often get a carrot about 3 times a week and a bone occasionaly. They also get a biscuit last thing at night and get dried tripe and pigs ears regularly.

Our Pup was on raw but with my daughter being away on holiday I am feeding her Origen complete. She also gets tinned sardines twice a week and exactly what the Dobes get but in different proportions.

I have to say they all look fantastic, their coats are like velvet, their eyes bright and wet noses. The Dobes are on the lean side but are incredibley fit and would run all day. With the pup as she is still growing its striking a balance, not too lean or overfat but she too looks fantastic. I dont allow her to run too much because of her growing joints but she prefers to spend her off lead time hunting the hedges.

Another raw feeder here.

My dogs ideas of treats which I dont include in their daily allowence is chicken wings for recall when out on walks (thank you CC)

If I have a yoghurt Teal gets the lid, Dylan gets the pot.

If I cant be bothered to scrape the slow cook pot/ large saucepans out from burnt/ dry bits Dylan gets to do it for me. I dont do it often as he dribbles everywhere in excitement.

I dont have to disguise tablets either, Teal has been taking his antibiotics from my hand every morning and evening for two weeks now!!

Mine get yoghurt pots - always have done!:D:D

If there is a tablet they won't eat- although fairly rare as they never got to the vets *touched wood* for anything other than 'regular' visits - they get it hidden in a marmite sandwich - small piece of bread, tablet on top with a dollop of marmite to hide it:D works every time:D:D

Their other treat is pilchards in tomato sauce - they love them:D

Mine are on Chudleys (working muesli) and I chuck in the odd eggshell, scraps from the roast (meat only) as and when. They thought they had died and gone to heaven when I gave them the skin off the ham I did for Christmas. Other than that, they get pig's ears and the odd marrow bone from the butchers to keep their teeth clean and that's it.

Oh - and if/when they come with me to horse trials, I share my burger and/or bacon sarnie with them . . . yes, I know . . .

P

Ours are also on Fish4Dogs as the main part of their diet but they get all sorts chucked in with it. Dog food-wise they get the salmon mousse pouches and sometimes Naturediet Fish.

Any appropriate table scraps go in and they also occasionally get natural yoghurt, eggs, veg that needs finishing off, pilchards and short dated meat from the supermarket.

Mine are fed raw but also get the salmon mousse when it's on BOGOF, it makes a great kong stuffing!

Every Sunday they have a 'doggy takeaway' - I work in a hotel/pub so they get the ends and trimmings off the roast joints and fish fillets, any meat/sausages/cheese/eggs that comes back in and leftover cooked peas, carrots, broccoli and squash, with a drizzle of gravy. :o

betty is fed on wainwrights, and i add in a tin of sardines every night (drained of oil) she gets fresh mackerel in the summer when we have been out fishing.

if there are any scraps they go in her dinner too (i reduce the amount of dry dog food according to the amount of scraps) along with 20 mls of apple cider vinegar.

in the mornings betty gets a couple of raw chicken wings/ oxtail etc, and twice a week i give her a whole raw egg smashed up with a bit of natural yoghurt.

about once a week she gets a raw bone.

spoilt..... i think not....! ha ha! :p

Our dog is fed raw and gets the various "extras" to bones, offal and meat that come with the plan (eggs, bits of yogurt, cottage cheese, salmon oil and kelp). Don't know if they are really necessary, but I'm firmly on the fence between carnivore/ omnivore.

The only treat she gets is liver cake when training and the odd tiny dog biscuit when I'm out of things to fill her kong with. There are pigs ears around the place but she doesn't seem too fussed about them.

i feed jwb turkey and rice kibble and add either a little bit of cooked chicken, drained tuna or cooked fish.. my lurcher is a very fussy feeder and just needs something to get her started..and i have to give my collie cross some as well so she doesnt feel left out. spoilt!!!!!, yes i think so, but neither of them are overweight and they dont get any other extras apart from mini jacks sometimes to help with recall....
