Do you use a lorry or trailer?

Do you own the lorry/trailer or borrow / hire / etc?

What type of lorry / trailer do you use?

How much does it cost you to run the trailer (and car / lorry per year?

Just looking into upgrading from a trailer to a loory and wondering what everyone else uses.

How much does it cost you to run the trailer (and car / lorry per year?
£200 INS
£40 MOT
£60 OR SO TAX

Just looking into upgrading from a trailer to a loory and wondering what everyone else uses.

We use a trailer, ifor williams HB505, and it's out own trailer. We used to have a 3.5 ton (i think) lorry after having trailers for years but found it too expensive to MOT etc during the winter months when we didn't really go out most weekends so the cost really wasn't justified over winter, whereas the trailer we don't have to worry about those costs.

As Muley except I have a Rice B60.

Used to have a box but when it got written off by a tree falling on it I replaced with a trailer!

I am also thinking of selling my Equi-Trek and getting a 7.5 tonne lorry and doing my LGV

I have a good deal - don't pay insurance, MOT or anything. But we use the lorry every other week and put fuel in. I have paid for upkeep when things have needed to be done, but generally it's a good runner for it's age and hasn't needed a lot done to it! *knocks on wood*!

Ifor williams 505 trailer that I own. and I love it.

Had a lorry in the past and it worked out too expensive I have two horses but only travel one at a time it was just not worth it the extra MOT, tax and not to mention the maintenance costs.

I have a 2 horse with day living e reg Leyland roadrunner. Not very preety but great to drive etc. Insurance and breakdown cover is around £300, MOT about £50 and tax £160/year. Parts etc can vary but I would out aside a couple of hundred plus a year

Own it

3.5t transit

Not sure really - about £250 insurance, £180 tax, mot and any other bits that need doing.

We use a lorry - it is our own. Make is a DAF 45 150, with air suspension. We reckon on it costing £1000 per year to run - insurance is £250, tax £165 and the rest is annual service and MOT. We have big heavy horses, so a trailer is not an option.

What type of lorry / trailer do you use? Mine is an Iveco 3 horse with fitted living, non HGV

How much does it cost you to run the trailer (and car / lorry per year? ALOT!! We recently put it through its plating which cost £1600 as we needed new brake calipers put on behind. 2months before that we had new brake calipers in front which cost £1000. However now the problems are sorted it shouldnt be quite so expensive next time. Insurance is £300 a year including breakdown cover, then you have the cost of deisel to add to all that.........Oh, and tyres are expensive too!

you can hire 3.5t boxes for about £85-100 a day, chesper per day for longer periods of hire, or you can hire them for the season.

Travel mine in a lorry. It is a 3.5ton LDV conversion that I own. It costs me £300 a year insurance and breakdown, £180 tax (same as my car!

) and then MOT and any running costs etc..... scary!!

Thanks for all your help.

Just wondering, P_G, did you have to do a test to drive your lorry?

I have done my trailer test so don't really want to have to go through all that again for a lorry so would probably go for something under 3.5T.

I own an equitrek, so no running costs except for me having to run a 4x4 to tow it! I used to have a corsa sobsob....although my 4x4 did get written off this week so not sure what will happen. Im a lucky, lucky girl as although I bought the trailer with my own money and that with the sale of my old car- my dad insures the 4x4 and I am a named driver as it would be far too much otherwise. He also helps me out if I have a show and will put some money towards petrol.
