As title really...........

My 20 rising 21 gelding is looking a little off at the moment, so open to any ideas or advice on what to feed him, he is currently on ad-lib haylage, in at night, lightly rugged (warm), he's unclipped and has two feeds a day, calm and condition and leisure mix, with graze on and soya oil, he also out on good grazing with my three mares and happy........... All answers would be much appreciated.

Ellie is 27 and an ID x.

She is currently out during the day naked and has been for three weeks, she is in naked at night too. She is in quite poor condition but has actually put weight on since being rugless.

She gets ad lib hay 24 hours a day, although the grass must be coming through now as she hasn’t touched any out in the field for a good week or so.

She is on two good scoops of Alpha A oil and a third of a dry scoop soaked of D&H Quick Beet. She has that twice a day.

She was on the Quick Beet, one scoop of Alpha A and one scoop of Hifi Senior up until a month ago, I then changed the Alpha A to Alpha A Oil, upped it to two scoops and dropped the Hifi Senior.

Here is Ellie a few weeks ago, she is rather poor, bless her.

My mare who is 18 rising 19 is unclipped. Until recently she's been out of work and therefore also unrugged. In overnight with haylage. She has two main feeds a day - two small but heaped scoops of Alfabeet morning and evening wth Top Spec Balancer. She also then gets a tub trug full of Graze On overnight. She's looked ok on this but I think if she were working she would need more. Last year I used this diet with one round scoop of Alfa-A with Oil in each feed (no Graze On overnight). She was out of work de to lameness but was clipped and looked really well all winter. Normally when she's clipped she's like a hat rack.

My 19yo 17'3 pure ID boy is on D&H 16+ mix. It is an exceptional feed and Rocky looks amazing all year round - has vitality and a great coat. I add soya oil/sugabeet in the winter and mix all with hi fi lite. I also supplement with Cortaflex with HA for his old limbs. He has ad lib hay all year round (is monsterously big to feed via grass alone!) He came 9th in the Chiltern & Thames Championships last year (in-hand veteran) which is amazing considering he was broken down with bone spavin when I rescued him from a riding school when he was 15. He has been sound since bar the usual odd tweak. Dodson & Horrell have a great nutrionline too and have worked out everything for me (free!) through all seasons - give them a call if you need advice as they really are helpful. Good luck.

My 24 year old 7/8 TB is on adlib hay, along with sugar beet, veg oil and micronised barley, divided into two feeds a day. She is a good weight, although she looks rather moth-eaten at the moment where she is moulting!

my mares 20 and coming back into work after a year off with a check ligament injury shes stabled over night with 2 wet haynets
she gets only one feed normally 2 scoops of happyhoof and one applechaff with 2 D&H veteran mix with her cortaflex
recently tho we have been giving her some blue chip original and have seen a huge difference in her condition especially in her coat so i would defiantly recomend it - pricey but worth it when people try to guess her age lets just say its normally around half her actual if only i could get away with that some times

We sent her away to be a broadmare having 7 foals. Now home with us very big lawn mower! Will stay with me now till the end.

14.2hh 23 (nearly) v good doer welsh x, out naked now, out 24/7 with field shelter looking after foals. Ridden occasionally. On glucosomine (had cortaflex whe she was competing tho last yr) DH pony nuts soaked so they are mushy (1/3 of round scoop) handful of hi-fi light to disguise the glucosomine, hay in the field. Hard feed once a day. Rugged when it is v cold. Feed recently reduced due to time of year/grass shooting up. Looks damn good IMHO.

Monty is @ 28yo and is a tb. He lives out 24/7 and is lightly hacked 3/4 times a week. He is naked in the day and rugged at night at the mo. He has hay in the morning (put out by the farmer and he is quite generous). He is on Alfa-A oil, Topspec leisure time feed balancer, Topspec cool condition cubes, sugarbeet and a handful of barley rings. This is him on the weekend.

My 20 year old Show pony, dartmoor x arab x tb, is out 24/7 with now a lightweight rug, but they also have hay in the field, he's on speedibeet, top spec senior, baileys topline cubes happy hoof and veterans mix (can't remember which) also gets garlic and soya oil.
He moved up from Hampshire to Edinburgh at the begining of December and lost about 30kgs which for him is quite a lot, but we are slowly getting the weight back on.

My guy is in his 'teens'...probably late..
He lives out 24/7 and is ridden very little atm..
Over winter he has been fed ad lib hay, Speedibeet, HiFi Lite and High Fibre Cubes with a dollop of Veggie oil twice a day:

My 30+ mare has recently been changed to Spillers Senior Conditioning Mix, Beet pulp, Alpha A Oil, Farnams Weight Builder and Equine Gold. She seems a lot perkier on it already and I'm hoping to see a physical difference over the next few weeks. She dropped a little more than I'd have liked over the winter.

Lady is 19 and lammi prone, she gets adlib hay, Outshine, BSS, Lo-cal and Happy Hoof and sometimes Speedibeet as well and is muzzled but out at night.

27 year old TB X, retired poor do-er.

Ad lib haylage, ad lib hay in field, works out to approx 10kg between both hay and haylage.

Rugged according to the weather (she feels the cold) - out from 6am to 4pm, then stabled overnight.

For her bucket feed, she has 1.5kg Hi Fi Senior (approx 4 scoops) and 1.2kg Allen and Page Fast Fibre (1.5 scoops dry weight, soaks up to 4 scoops wet). She also has a general vitamin and mineral supplement, plus supplements for stiffness and mudfever, and carrots/apples/parsnips to make it more interesting.

She's looking well on it, she's not hungry (well, she's hungry enough to eat what I give her, but wouldn't eat much more). Also, because it's a fibre only diet, she isn't too fizzed up on it.

My 19 Y.O 17.3hh old hunter, Henry has 1 scoop (round stubbs scoop) sugar beet, 1 scoop Badminton easy rider, 1/2 scoop countrywide herbal mix and 1 scoop of Black Sunflower Seeds in one feed at night.

Sorry I do have the KG worked out but its on the feed room chart- not in my head!

Last winter he was on a special veteran mix and I think he looks tons better this year, i personally think its down to the BOSS.

I haven't got a current photo of him without his rug on, but here he is a few weeks ago in the snow!

woody20081.jpg

This is Woody, she is 20yrs in this picture now rising 21 and I have always fed her pony nuts, soaked hay at night when stabled (mild copd) and out to graze in the day. She's never had suppliments/extras but I have changed her feed to Winergy Equilibrium Senior in the last few weeks for no other reason than I thought she might benefit from a feed with a few extra's (I also felt a bit guilty that she was still on pony nuts at 21!) I have just started riding her again after a long break so have decided to add a joint suppliment to this and would you beleive I've had to resort to Magic calmer as it appears I've got older whilst she has regressed to a 5yr old! I love my old gal!

My old girl is 23 and I have had her since she was 4 - quite poor then but subsequently, a good doer.

Her feed is Hi-Fi Lite, 1 scoop per feed (twice a day) with 4 very small handfuls of D&H Leisure Mix split between 2 feeds as are the rest: three quarters mug of Hardy Hoof + 1 measure Extra Flex + 1 measure garlic + 1 measure Benevit + 1 measure Echinacea. I should add that she is arthritic and also has had a chronic skin condition (hence the Echinacea....which seems (x's fingers) to be working). These feed measures are (obviously) reduced according to the grass available. During the Summer months her Mix/Hi-Fi is halved but she still continues with the other things, apart from the Benevit (not needed when on Dr. Grass).

She is at home and has (within reason) ad-lib hay, but if the grazing is good, then she has no hay at all. The feeds she has (in Spring/Summer/early Autumn) are really only a vehicle for her supplements. She has 1 sachet of Danilon per day for her arthritis (vet advised).

Cassie at 24... Fed on 1/4 scoop of pasture mix and 1/4 scoop molichop...never had any supplements, ad lib haylage, always stabled at night feed reduced to handfull of both if lots of grass. Was still competing to unaffil pre novice level and 105cm show jumping at 24
