Not for me, for my fellow livery (we share duties)...its for her 18yo Sec D x TB. He is a good doer but is on various supplements and is on bute for arthritis. He is currently on a modest portion of hifi original and speedibeet and is turning his nose up at it. Any suggestions for something more paletable to disguise all his drugs??!

syringe it into his mouth....

i have a fussy good do'er and pretty sure that's what i'll have to do if i ever have to feed her bute....

or just for now for the bute maybe use a traditional chaff with some mollases in?

or try apple juice...?

Hmm...not sure syringe would work as he's on vairous things as well as the bute. In the summer she gave him bute and mollasses sandwiches which seemed to work but there are so many supps now it may not work.

Will suggest the apple juice tho.

Mine happily eats loads of supplements but will not touch feed that has bute in unless heavily disguised.

May be worth seeing if you can get him to eat the others by very slowly building them up one at a time. Then if you are left with just the bute giving that separately.

I found mollichaff herbal was good at disguising tastes though it's a straw chaff not an alfalfa/straw mix like the hi fi.
I give half and half of that and alfalfa so similar to hi fi just mix it myself.

Bute has a very bitter taste and is difficult to disguise in feed, you could try adding mint powder.

Alternatively, your friend could discuss with her vet if it might be worthwhile to change the horse to Danilon which is more palatable but although more expensive.

My good doer loves a bit of treakle or honey in his feed. He was on Speedi beet last year and is on alfa beet and hi fi good doer now and absolutly LOVES it!

He is on red cell too and wouldn't have that straight from the syrigne but doesn't notice it in his feed!

I think he is on red cell?? (is that the dark green stuff??) newmarket supplement....and it is danilon not bute sorry I know they are different. Oh and maybe a probiotic...or is it pre...anyway lots of things!! He has navicular, arthritis in both hocks...a colapsed hip, one eye....uveitis in that one to boot...erm, oh and has a tendency to colic. He's game old boy tho!!

My pony is very suscpious of any new supplement added to his food and will turn up his nose - I think it is the smell more than the taste of some of them. Someone suggested adding mint and that has done the trick. He is back to his very greedy self!

Maybe reducing the numbers of supplements to the essential ones, eg just Danilon and Newmarket joint supplement might help.

My old boy is not keen on his Bute in chaff and pony nuts but licks the bowl clean if hidden in either Top Spec Senior Feed Balancer or Baileys Lo Cal Balancer or Outshine - he has expensive tastes

Perhaps she may be able to cut some of his supplements down too if she gave him the Top Spec Senior?

The hi fi range has a green bag (for good doer's and lami's) and it has added mint. My boy will eat anything in it, where before he wouldnt touch it with normal hi fi x
