What fibre do you feed?

broke_but_happy was that mean for me?

I'm not limited to 2 nets, I choose to give her 2 nets. She probably has about 7 slices in total and she could eat the lot if she wanted too. I double net it just to slow her down so she's munching for longer than if she gobbled the lot in one go.

For her 7 slices is "ad lib" and she wouldn't eat 7 slices in one night, last night she only ate one haynet, the other was full this morning.

i cant give my horse sugar beat or speedi beat it blows his brain !!

I feed coolstance which is made from coconut its brillliant and the only thing that ever put weight on a thoroughbred we had at the yard !!! (its also only £16 and lasts 6 weeks for 1 horse)

I feed Pure Easy by the Pure Feed Company (just bought my feed in for the month and swear its gone up...but no delivery charge...oh well it works and is complete and easy to feed!)

good quality hay and mollichaff calmer or Spillers cool fibre is all mine needs.

I always read the ingredients, as some chaffs are actually quite fattening, some contain vits/mins and some don't, and many contain alfalfa which doesn't agree with some horses. Plus mine hates anything garlicy.

i feed fibre beet in winter as you can put it to soak with warm water when you go get them in and by the time you get back with horses it is soaked and ready. they love it.

Broke_but_happy - I have 2 HUGE haynets per horse. The farmer does round bales, so I never really appreciated the amount of hay one of my nets held, until recently. Our hay ran out and so I bought in some small bales, one haynet held over half a bale of hay by a couple of slices - so I guess technically you could say I feed around a small bale worth in the 2 haynets - bearing in mind the slices are so compact!

I like to feed a balancer, a chaff and usually a form of mix/nugget for hard feed. Last winter my two did very well on equilibra and mollichaff calmer. I used pasture cubes on my (was then) 17 year old gelding, and a youngstock mix on my (was then) 2 year old gelding.

This year, my plan is to feed the equilibra and mollichaff calmer again, but I wanted to take my youngster off the youngstock mix, and I thought another source of fibre would be more beneficial than pumping them both unnecessarily with cereal/starch/sugar.

I must say I really like the sound of the AP fast fibre - it fits the bill well - more than likely the route I am going to take. Thank you for everyone's input and responses! xx :)

I use FibreGY which is a bit more expensive but my lad loves it and it always smells and looks like grass rather than stalks, if you see what I mean. Also use Speedibeet and of course ad-lib haylage. I like a lot of fibre because my lad is colic prone.
