What floor covering to put in front of stables

After the concrete base I have an area that was once grass but is now a pile of weeds/stinging nettles that I am have to strim regularly. What would you do with this bit of rough land? I have thought about scraping it back and laying a membrane and woodchips but I guess it will just spread the woodchips over the concrete. I don't think I want gravel for a similar reason - what would you guys do??

Self binding gravel. Were in the process of doing ours and its great stuff and fairly cheap as well and once compacted last for ages
