I've always been a short boots and chaps rider, currently I can't get into my old jod boots, I think my feet have splayed from wearing mostly trainers for a year! My yard boots are comfy and go from yard to riding fine

But I'd like some ideas for short boots, please, so tell me what you ride in.

I have MT jodh boots for day to day and ariat short boots for nice stuff (I have lovely brown gaiters to match them for show :p ). I used to use ariat terrains day to day and had a very long lasting pair of MT long leather boots for good before they all died a death :( The terrains were kinda like your pink ones in style (but not colour!).

I ride either in my long yard boots (mountain horse hi-riders, excellent boots with good ankle support) or my trainers - in my defence I have toe cages and flexi stirrups because my ankles are messed up and I can't keep my heels down so even in proper 'heeled' footwear I'm at high risk of my feet sliding through.

Usually always long boots. Either Ariat Bromonts or Volants. However I've just got some new Ariat half chaps and matching jod boots for the summer. Tried them out and they are nice ride to in but not quite as nice as my long boots.

I have 3 different pairs so can choose what I need (dodgy ankle)
Have ariats for best (can now get them on)

Mountain horse short boots

Then have recently got some shires one with laces and a zip at the back. I've been surprised at how very comfy they are. And weren't too expensive either

Walking boots and chaps. Naughty me. But I don't ride all that often anymore and I don't like to change boots between riding and yard work so its got to be comfortable and very sturdy, not a combination I've ever found in riding boots.

I always generally ride in my proper long riding boots as they're really comfy but the best short boots I ever had were Ariat Teluride. They're about £100 but you get a lot of wear from them.

I managed to kill two pairs but it took be ages to break them, unlike some other boots I could mention. Chaps slip easily over them and they are really well made. Only reason I haven't got another pair is because I have a dodgy left ankle and the back just comes a bit too high up now and catches my tendon.

I have quite a few pairs of Cavallo short leather boots and these are my preferred boots to ride in during the summer months; generally with chaps if I'm riding in shorts, or no chaps if I am riding in jeans. If I'm riding English I ride in my long leather Cavallo jumping boots. Sometimes I ride in my cowboy boots but it's often way too hot for them, so they tend to be spring or autumn boots. In winter I ride in my Ariat Grasmere boots if I riding in a saddle, if I'm riding bareback then I wear my 'ugly boots' which are made by a company called Kamik and they are good down to -40c which is exactly what we need over here!

I have just bought the shires Brompton paddock boots too- laced front and zip back, they are much easier for me to get on and off (with my dodgy legs and poor grip and co-ordination) and really comfortable. Wear them with tredstep gaiters in winter and will probably wear long socks when it gets hot (although I quite fancy the MH riding trainers in red/black so might have to pretend leather boots too hot in summer to justify buying riding trainers! :) )

If I want to wear long boots, I find MH high riders very comfortable for casual and Just Togs classic (I think they are called that) for competitions but I only do RDA competitions a couple of times a year so don't know how hardwearing they will be, probably not great due to the price.

If I competed more often I would prob. get MH,
I like the Venice(?) lace front ones but don't think they are correct for dressage or showing classes, is that right? Don't they have to be plain, non-laced for those?

Ariat Terrains for me too, with matching (though black rather than brown) chaps. I always seem to get a pair of chaps on sale in whatever colour my current short boots are not.

I've seen the terrains, I might go for the lace ones when the new pink ones die (they have discontinued them, I'm gutted!) The tellurides look good, too. :)

I got a pair of ariat heritage III boots at burghley this year. The most I've ever spend on riding boots but they are so worth it! Although my cheap shires pair did last about 4 years so I can't fault them either.

Used to ride in mh short boots and chaps, now always in mountain horse long boots, they r v generous on calf and good quality leather, they would certainly protect any vulnerable leg areas should u get squished through a gate etc and have saved my lower leg many a time from brambles, trees x

I ride in walking boots and half chaps. In winter I ride in HKM fleece lined winter riding boots as they are nice and warm!

either long boots which I will turn out and bring in in too then just wash the mud off with the hose before I tack up or my jodhpur boots with chaps but sometimes without chaps

I have Shires yard boots suitable for riding, I cannot wear jodhpur boots for long I can never find a pair that don't rub the top of my foot! Anyway, they are so comfortable and very sturdy (worth the money) and I wear them with my beloved, well aged, can no longer buy them (so sad) Mountain Horse Nubuck half chaps, you can tell I love the chaps!!

These are the boots;

I've bumped gates and been swiped by brambles in this combo and it's plenty of protection, granted chaps are never as rigid as long boots though.

Weird bit is on the inside, so that's safe! None of my old chaps fit yet, I normally ride without anyway. Am liking the Ariats more and more!

I live in my woof wear spectrums although they are getting a bit shaggy so I'll soon be looking for new so will watch this thread with interest :)

Yeah those are the ones. I couldn't get my foot in any others when I first started riding after surgery
I don't think it matters on dr whether they have laces or not (I wear mine with gaiters, but I can see the laces) . If it's only local showing wouldn't notice laces either.

I used to wear Mountain Horse , I think they were High Rider. I now wear Katy jodphur boots. My legs are too thin and short for long boots and I don't wear half chaps and they would have to be child size

Mountain Horse lace up short boots, the ones with steel toe caps. Worn with decathlon half chaps. They have lasted well considering they are never cleaned and do yard work etc. 3years service so far. They are comfy enough for me to walk in when the husband is hacking too.

He wears mountain horse high riders.

I have Mark Todd and Ariat long boots for schooling and smart wear.

I'm naughty and will have a short ride or hack in ariat windemeres. For shows, schooling, jumping, riding other people horses, I have Sergio Grasso long boots.

Ariat lace up paddock boots to ride in with riding trousers as I hate chaps. Cant find comfy long boots for skinny ankles but muscly calves :(
