What footwear do you ride in?

ariats - terrains if you canget them or the new tellurides ( I found the soles a little stiffer but you get used to them) would never put a pair of mountain horse near my feet ever again

I bought terrains as they were cheaper than tellurides... I'd have either in a heart beat! :)
 
Woof Wear Spectrum boots and Mountain Horse Duralon half chaps. Boots are super comfy. Only complaint is that because they are quite bulky around the ankle, the zip keeps loosening at the bottom of my half chaps.
 
I always ride in Ariats. They have the most lovely feel and security in the stirrupsI have my Ariat volants which are my favourites, and my Ariat heritage which I tend to wear around the yard. The main thing I look for in a riding boot is a thin sole with a secure grip in the stirrups. I cannot stand the feeling of riding in thick soled boots. I have my Just togs muck boots which I do most of my work in, but even though they are meant to be ridden in, I wouldn't. I always change into my Ariats.
 
I used to wear the mountain horse steel toe caps to ride in at home, but after busting my ankle last year, they are not that comfy now. So changed to Ariat bromonts, and find that they give my ankle really good support. My daughter has a pair of the steel toe cap - Ariats and they are lovely too. I nick them occasionally when shes not looking. So I suppose i'm a total Ariat convert .
 
For years I had always ridden in various Ariat jodhpur boots but since starting uni (and therefore not riding as much) I couldn't really justify spending over £100. Ended up buying a pair of Tredstep jodhpur boots. Since I always ride in jeans (except when competing) I always ride with leather gaiters too. Was put off long boots after witnessing an accident years ago!
 
What I ride in depends on what I'm doing and what the weather's like :)

If it's a hot sunny day and I'm riding bareback then I probably have bare feet.

Most of the time though I wear Ariat Grasmere or Glacier long boots (whether riding or not!). For lessons where I feel the need to be tidier I wear Bromonts, same for competing.
 
I have 2 pairs of long boots for everyday riding & then a pair of boots I only ever wear for competing

I then have a pair of wellys & a pair of yard boots.... overkill maybe ?
 
Ariat boots & gaiters (which look like long boots from a far) but have been known to jump on a RDA pony in my Dubs...
 
I've always ridden in jod boots, I've recently bought some mountain horse boots but I'm not convinced about riding in them! like they would grip too much on the rubbers in my irons and if something happens my foot wont slip out as well as they would with my jod boots, so think ill just have them for pottering about in!
 
I have a pair of Dublin Venturer boots which are quite a sturdy jodhpur boot, and some half chaps. In fact I have two pairs of the boots because I have my brown ones for riding and they were so comfortable that I bought a black pair to work in!

I used to have some Sergio Grasso long boots when I competed and they would probably be my first choice if I needed another pair, they were lovely.

Why? I quite like the look of the MH lace up boots.

I wear a pair of very old Dublin jodphur boots and short chaps for everyday riding, they are about 5 years old and still going strong which isn't bad considering they didn't cost very much. For smart riding I have Ariat Bromonts which I love wearing but don't want to wear out too quickly because I can't afford another pair!
 
I ride in Mountain Horse Mountain Riders & Dublin half chaps. They are sturdy enough for yard work but comfy enough to ride in. I am only a pleasure rider. so don't need any boots for best.
 
have broken both my feet in mountain horse short boots - both dismounting normally onto normal ground - im pretty tough - have no health issues eg brittle bones etc and haven't ever done anything like this before or since. It maybe coincidence but not willing to take the risk again
 
I had a fall from a large horse wearing MH steel toecaps, my foot got stuck in the stirrup (bent leg 'safety' ones) I was dragged, fortunately the boots were too big for me and it came off, boot, chap & spurs hanging from the stirrup as the horse charged off.

Bit of a chicken and egg/double edged sword really. The bulky boot my have got stuck, but it also saved me from worse injuries than broken ribs by coming off.

I have read since that that type of stirrup iron has caused similar problems for other riders. Never used them again, only Sprenger now.
 
one froma 17.2hh who I had ridden for 6 years or so and one from a 15.3hh who I had been int he riding school I worked for for about 5 years - one I dismounted to check someone who had fallen off was ok (onto a tarmacked footpath) and the other was in a car park
