What freaks out your horse when hacking?

Erm, nothing! :D
Only ever known him be really scared twice in 6 years, once his exercise sheet had slipped and was down by his back legs (I think most would freak out about that!) and to this day I have no idea what scared him on the other occasion!
Generally he's rock steady though he's still very forward - best of both worlds! :p

Most things if he's in the mood to be 'scared' - ie fresh and too much energy for imagination in his pretty head.

But the funniest thing is his own shadow! If I ride early afternoon on a sunny day he leaps sideways constantly when he sees this gloomy monster beside him out of the corner of his eye!

You have no idea how pleased i am that i dont own the only horse that spooks at drain covers, white line on roads and tarmac thats a different colour to the rest whether its the that red stuff or just a slightly different shade of black  You can imagine his reaction when he was walking up to a drain cover and there was a lady in a garden cutting her grass about 3m behind it :D He did a very good mountain goat impression whilst trying to run away wetting himself thinking the drain was going to eat him! Even the woman in the garden laughed! :D

Shetland foals, being lead like dogs! I was going sidewards untill they dissapeared.
Birds coming out of hedges.
Footballers.
Surprisingly, not lorries who insist of whizzing past at 40mph!

Miniature Shetlands!!

We were having a lovely hack until then! He did a lovely number of broncs in the middle of the road!!:eek:

What I dont understand is that he lives with a shetland who he adores:confused::confused:

The other day a rather large bus was coming towards us but he was more interested in eyeballing the plastic tubes that new trees grow in in a field next to the road! He couldnt care less about the bus though who let his airbrakes off beside me too:D

My 21 year old 12.1hh Welsh (now retired) used to hate wheelybins, he was bombproof in everyway apart from wheelybins and donkeys :D

Yellow flowers, anything white at ground level, more than one wheelie bin (they might perform a pincer movement!), puddles (doesn't recognise her own reflection!) free standing notice boards on the side of the road and generally anything small THAT WASN'T THERE LAST TIME, like a molehill!

No problem with planes, helicopters, buses, tractors, combines, roadworks - the bigger the better!

anything red... was wearing a red coat the other day he wouldnt let me within 50 ft of him :o red head collar is scary oh and waterproof chaps -.- its the noise they make :'( everything else fine road sweepers, tanks, lorries, trains, motorbikes, runners, cyclists EVEN IF THEY ARE RED?! but me in red no :o

My cob is very particular in what she likes and doesn't like. Yellow daffs OK, white daffs are spawn of the devil. Green wheelie bin OK, blue ones must never be passed on fear of death, birds on fences are fine, birds in bushes eat horses.

My mare has a particular dislike to a blue arrow sprayed on the road and totally freaks out at it some days and other days not. She will go past most normal scary things fine though, apart from tractors, lets just erm not go there :p

Drains, she also isn't keen on dogs running. She will happily pass a dog thats stood still or jumping up and barking. But when they run to her she hates it.

My old share mare (who I'm riding again, since my mare is broken :() is pretty scared of everything. Although is fine with tractors and lorries. She spooks at leaves, different coloured tarmac, clumps of mud, her shadow, small Ponies, any other type of animal apart from Dogs, if the road just doesn't look right to her she will suddenly slam on the brakes and walk round nothing (I honestly have no idea what she even spooks at when she does this haha) drains, white lines, the SLOW sign makes her lose her head, rustling bushes, walkers etc just everything she even spooks at her own farts, just stands there like "who did that?" she is terrifeied of carts though, and I don't mean a shy to the side. She will bolt, rear, spin whatever she needs to do in order to get away formt he cart.

Hard to believe my mare is 6 and share mare is an ex riding school Horse who is 16 :P

Purple and yellow flowers, roadworks sign, fake birds (bird scarer) and one time a grey pony (ironic as he is grey himself)!!! silly pony :)

on more than one occasion my mare has spooked at her own shadow. I don't think she likes the way it looks on chicken wire:rolleyes:

...anything & everything - drains, his shadow chasing him, horses smaller than him, horses fluffier than him, dogs, people, silver cars (biggie!), certain types of flower, certain shades of green... you get the idea!

madam is scared of dogs in quite a big way, and sheep too... funny as she came off a hill with nothing but sheep on it. twings snapping & anything unexpected - for example the boat she spotted where she demonstrated how well she could do 360 turns at high speed

My cob can cope with most things - lorries, tractors, low flying helicopters - but does not like mobility scooters. Not good as we just moved to a village with a large elderly population. The first time we met one he stopped in the middle of the street and snorted at the scary, but slow moving beast. The poor lady riding the scooter look very alarmed and scooted off as fast as she could down the road!

A pot of bright flowers could cause my tb to snort and do a 5 mile half circle...!! Hot air balloons, aeroplanes landing and taking off beside her were no problem!!!

For my girl the scariest thing in the world is cows, se trembles head to hoof at the sound of one, not brilliant when the yard is situated between three cow farms
Other than that its kiddie's scooters, daffodils, walking sticks, puddles, different colour tarmac, logs, and the one i find the most ridiculous her own shadow!

I have contemplated getting a cow print rug for her field mate in an attempt to alleviate her fear of cows.

I have a little Shettie x driving pony (we cause a few spooks), who's more or less bombproof. A memorable drive in the summer took us past the local pub's beer festival with marquee and generator, a logging Unimog complete with trailer, logs and rattling chains, an evening meet of the Harley Davidson club and 2 trains without a break in stride. On the way home there were 2 white ducks on the grass verge, we were across the road, up the kerb then very rapidly home...

to get to our common you hvae to go past the station and my mare is scared of shopping bags and pushchairs but nothing else we even have cows on the common grazing they dont bother her

Larry hates Drain covers, cows but what really pushes him over the edge is the horse eating sheep and small children lol Paddy is very easy going thankfully!!

Drains
Squirrels
Flappy pheasants
Cows
Writing on the road
Sheep
Logs

Cars, lorries,tractors,bikes=no problem! Stange mare!
