We have a couple of grooms, mine is fantastic she always goes above and beyond and treats every horse as she would her own.

What she really needs is a decent coat. She is always wet and cold but buys cheaper coats which just dont cut it. I have tried to get her other clients to club in so we can buy her a decent one but I'm having to give up on that idea.

So, what can I buy? I could get her horse some treats and a fancy brush - any suggestions? What for her? I thought maybe waterproof gloves, good socks - she likes brands, what's in with the 20 year olds? Erm, what else?

Budget maybe £30 but flexible. Thanks for any ideas.

as a 22 year old who went to the yard without one, i love a good ear warmer!🤣 i have some lovely tweed ones but i find the cable type ones are best for actually staying where you put them.

personally i think waterproof gloves are too bulky for lots of yard jobs, what about some regular warm but still thin ones? i have some ariat ones that i really rate, i think they’re the suede type ones, really warm but still thin enough to actually do things! i’m awful for ripping gloves but these ones have survived a year so far without holes in them.

i like ariat socks too, they have a nice thickness in the foot but not too bulky around the leg, you could do a little bundle of the 3?

If she is always cold, I can suggest thermal base layers, decathlon do some for 7 quids (ski wear), they have tops and bottoms. Or a gift card so she can choose between gloves, hat, thermal wear, etc...
I also have the Decathlon snow boots and they work well for doing the horses in winter (they were about 20 quids).

I've recently got myself one of these and it's really good. No leaks in all the rain we've had recently. But over budget but if you for go the treats for her horse it's not to much more than budget. Possibly go half's with someone else on the yard?

I got my groom and her daughter the reflective ear warmer from le mieux last year and they loved them.

I was thinking sealskin gloves or socks this year or one of those restaurant gift cards so they can both go and have a meal together.

There's nothing like thermal underwear for being a very comfortable temperature.

I'd been thinking it a shame about not being able to get the coat, but TU is a great idea.

Is Lemiuex still in? I think it is and would be right for someone about 20?

If so I'd probably get her a LM saddlecloth or base layer or something. At that age I'm not sure practical presents are appreciated as much as something that's in fashion?

If you'd stretch to £45 then this weatherbeeta jacket looks super!!

Quite true, and my suggestion was a bit cringy 😂

But for years I took no notice of a fellow at work who used to talk a lot about warm underwear, and who told us he wore ladies underwear because it was so much more comfortable. 🤔 But anyhow, when I started to wear extra layers I realised how super it is. It's also easy to move around in, because it's not bulky.

Oh I completely agree! It's a revelation when you stop worrying about fashion and instead go for things that keep you warm! Suddenly you realise that all those times you spent soaked to the skin and freezing cold were unnecessary!

I would get her something lovely but non horsey because in her case horsey things are for work and she works for you, so its like buying something to help her work for you.
