In here rather than NL as thought CR-ers might be able to answer better :p

Finally got my Wow xc saddle which I am chuffed to bits with :D (Sadly I had to empty my lorry-saving fund in order to buy it, but hey ho). It turns out I actually can ride after all, so it was worth it :)

Any recommendations on girths for Wow saddles? I couldn't stretch to a Wow girth so I'm using my normal dressage girth on it at the moment but ideally I'd like a synthetic girth as I'll be using this saddle for hacking too and it's easier to just hose the mud off then.

I used a professionals choice girth on my old jumping saddle which my mare found really comfortable but I heard that you shouldn't use girths with elastic straps with a Wow saddle  Is that complete bunkum or is there a reason for that? Should have asked fitter but I was rather dazed from handing over so much money

My WOW fitter said not to use elasticated girth with WOW saddles because the air panels already have 'give' in them. So I used a WOW W unelasticated girth. However would have thought there are plenty of other girths around without elastic.

Would be interested to know if anyone uses elastic girth with a WOW saddle.

Bunkum! I have always used an elasticated girth with wows and David (head honcho) liked my girth :p

Anyway I have got (girth-a-holic)

Pro choice (rode at hickstead in this), but had to add velcro strap to stop the the straps flapping

Aerborn waffle with elastic - its a bit thin for my liking

Norton - spanky new shaped jobby (looks like a copy of new Bates / wintec shaped ones at half the price. Horse seems to like it and helps with his backward girth groove

Norton - another spanky new girth, not had chance to test yet, still in a bag in the tack room!

Albion ultima - only use for showing, too much hassle to clean

JHL Non elasticated - tried tend not to use as prefer elasticated

The one that David liked was a waldhausen gel filled girth with elastic both ends

Looked like this (from Soya corp, so probably the manufacturer)
This one was in the Horse magazine picture in the avatar <-

Very hard to beat the pro choice IMHO

Sorry I've just got Jing which is fab - here's another picture of saddle and girth mid jump (love that the wow doesn't lift at the back)

However breaking all rules as I use a saddle pad and elasticated girth, as its what works for me!

That's useful, thanks, and as my yard's resident tack geek I'm jealous! :p

Pleased to hear you find the Pro Choice works though, as it was such a hit as a long girth for my mare. Will have to get saving again :)

I use a waffle dressage girth which is elasticated both sides - can't remember the make without looking - it has a red logo!

I got my wow from the HQ and have had several fittings over the years, no one there has ever said anything about not using my girth.

id never heard of them, but its leather and really lovely shaped and wide to spread the load!
i found the wow one was a bit narrow and dug into the horse a little?

Adrian - used a WOW H-girth.
Trev - Thorowgood double ended elastic.

FWIW, my WOW fitter said never to use a single ended elastic girth (not just on WOWs) cos it puts an uneven load on the back.

Thanks all, seems like anything goes, pretty much ;)

Yes, I also found that my mare jumped wonky with a single-elastic girth :( which is why I ended up with the pro choice with my old saddle.

As a Wow fitter I would always dissuade clients from using any girth with elastic on one end only especially on a WOW, I have also found that the very stretchy elastic girths like the aerborn ones have a bit too much give on horses that have tricky shapes to stabilise fit on. Personally I use the wintec dressage girths and find they have enough elasticity without being too stretchy, if you fancy something more padded and softer then the Keiffer girths are good, the buckles on them are excellent.

My mare is sensitive little flower  so she has a shaped Mattes Sheepskin one. Bit eye-watering on the purchase price but they wear incredibly well. I'm still using my original one and that is coming up for 6 years old.
