Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a new girth for my horse and am wondering about options.

My preference is for leather, elasticated at both ends, with a D-ring for martingale attachment and a bit padded for comfort. But now that I've started looking and comparing options, I'm seeing all sorts out there.

Also, elasticated at both ends? Just one end? Elastic inserts between the ends and the middle? No elastic? What are the pros and cons do you think?

Do I go the whole hog and fork out for decent quality leather? Or is good quality neoprene actually better for the horse?

Would be interested to hear people's opinions/experiences.

Thanks!

Check out the Albion Humane Girths. Fantastic quality leather, yes I know they are expensive but you will never need to replace them.

i think either elasticated only in the middle (but with a sleeve between horse and elastic) or elasticated throughout are best. the Wintec ones are very very good for the money, i really rate mine. the leather ones with elastic in the middle are lovely but they are fairly bulky under the leg, worth bearing in mind.
i don't like the D-ring martingale attachments personally, because since those and the clip ones (on wider stud-guard girths) were introduced i've seen quite a few come loose and flap about (incl at Badminton this year iirc), i prefer the old fashioned sort where you just thread the girth through.
