What grass do you have?

Lots of lush green at the moment!

We've got old meadow grasses - it's really quite nice - but too much of it for my 3! Eeek!

Whats grass??!?! I cant seem to remember what it is as we have had no rain for about 10 weeks and our fields look like arid dirt, hence me feeding a awfull lot of haylage!

Bring on the rain!!!! PLEASE !!!!
 
Our fields are rubbish at the moment too!
But our farrier is warning everyone to keep the neds slim as theres going to be a suspected flush of grass in october and he's warning of a lot of bad laminitus

Some grasses are better than others for horses. Grass grown for cows is too high in protein and energy for horses.

Pasture rich in timothy is good for horses, because it is low in sugar. You need other grasses too though for toughness and grass growth at different times of year. Pure ryegrass is too high in sugar for horses but some in the pasture is fine.

Maybe it is just in North America, but fescue has been suspected of causing photosensitivity and problems in breeding mares.

My fields have a lot of old meadow grass, and 25-30% alfalfa, oversown two years ago with timothy. Also, curses, loads of wild carrot, PITA weed that is proving a swine to get rid of without ploughing everything up.
 
Dust at the top, little bit of green under the trees, by the stream. Also OH has ploughed a few test furrows in the dust as he's got his first ploughing match on Sunday, daughter has said that as she got a 1st rosette on her 1st outing so should he
