which grazing muzzle do you use?

When needed i have previously used a shires nylon grazing muzzle, with good success.
From what i have seen and hear the green guards are not so good

i used to use the best friend ones but they are expensive. I now use the shires ones, work better for us than the greenguard

Best Friend are the best you can get IMO. Much deeper than the shires ones so harder for the horse to get off. Expensive but worth the money if it actually stays on your horses head.

If you go for the shires keep an eye on your horses chin. I bought one for my cob, she wore it for no more than 3 hours per day for 5 days and ended up with 3 large sores where it rubbed. I complained to Shires and was told it is to be used gradually....thats exactly what I did! May not affect all horses but just something to be aware of.

Shires 'bucket' muzzle.

Green guard wore her teeth at the front! And are difficult to keep on.

Shires ones stay on well and they find it easy enough to eat. HOWEVER, I found they overheated unless they have a square cut away for their nostrils. Both ponies have a 'hatch' removed for each nostril and since doing so they've been much happier in them. They wear them 24/7 when given a little more grass.

Sorry, going to add to the confusion by recommending the greenguard. We use them for both of ours and at times my gelding is in one whenever he is not being ridden, to prevent him turning into a brown hairy balloon!

Both of mine are in Shires muzzles, I buy a size to big, that seems to cut down on any rubs.

I used a shires grazing muzzle and it lasted the grand total of 8 days before the plastic muzzle bit had detached from the thing so ended up with a headcollar with a lump of plastic attached! I did take it back and got a refund but am wondering how much better the best friend ones are in comparison - he was much happier in with his friend than in his paddock where he generally field hops out again!!

Anyone know te best place/price for the best friend ones?

I've got an aerborn one on my shetland. She did have a best friend one but the hole wore into a big hold.

The aerborn one fits much better in my opinion.

i tried the shires one but it rubbed my horses chin raw , and id only used it for a few hours.

i then bought a greenguard muzzle and its fantastic , shes now worn it daily for 12 hrs since may and it has never rubbed.

We found the Greenguard one rubbed Toffee's muzzle; now both the ponies are in Dinky muzzles. They are soft and machine washable, and the horses don't object to them at all. Despite the name, they go up to an XL which is horse/cob.
