What happened to clea phillips

just keeping track of burghley on H&H which is great!
But does anyone know why clea phillips has withdrawn lead the way?!

Im guessing because she is a reserve for Fontibleu and there is a rumour that FC won't be fit enough/still a bit injured after his fall on the flat at the World Cup so he would have to be withdrawn and someone would be taking his place

hmmm if that was true about flint curtis would Oli not have withdrew quest as he had both horses has options?? Unless he wanted to have a crack at burghley over the europeans!

Think he was VERY keen to do Burghley esp after leading dressage as has his eye on the HSCB Classics big prize - and good luck to hium

But honestly if you were leading Burghley by several penalties would you want to give it up?

And at the Europeans he would have been competing against some better class horses and riders

Not always - a lot of the riders have got 2 4* horses at least who could do either tbh, especially given that the Euros is 3*

it's all rumour, so could be a load of rubbish, but i was told he'd rather try to win Burghley than go to the Euros... i suspect £££s have a lot to do with it.
Withdrawing while in the lead at a 4*, and on course for the Grand Slam, wouldn't be an easy decision i reckon!

It shouldn't hrm his chances unless there is pettiness from the powers that be.
The riders' principal debt is to the owners, and who would want to pass up a Burghley win for a team placing? The way the selection committees (all countries) can mess riders about, I really don't blame him.

oh yes i can totally see why- its a mahoosive amount of money to win in a sport where money is hard to come by but i do wonder if team selectors could be a bit petty about this sort of thing....
