What happens when your noseband is too low? & how is 'too low'?

I have recently bought a bridle from flexifit bridles and i stupidly bought a cob sized noseband instead of a full for my weirdly shaped headed TB... it is a tad bit small for him and right now it can only fit on the last hole, quite low down the face. (it is a cavesson noseband)

If I knew how to post a picture I would.

How low is 'too low' and what will happen if it is too low?

any comments/opinions will be appreciated!!

It will put pressure on the upper part of the nostrils and restrict breathing, and may rub.

Get your hole punch out

I was told as a rule of thumb it should be two fingers width from the end of the cheek bone

Take the noseband off, problem solved

With a cavesson unless you have fitted it lower than your bit it won't restrict his breathing. However it will look wrong. Take it off and get it replaced with one the right size or put holes in to suit him.

Depending on how low you have fitted the noseband, there is the possibility of the horses lips being pinched between noseband and bit when you use the reins.

when you say 'lower than your bit' does that mean lower than the bit rings?

i like nosebands quite high, like under the cheek bones.
