What has been your best achievement this year and why?

getting my confidence back after my accident last year...

> being able to laugh when the naughty ponies go rodeo instead of secretly wanting to run away.
>taking my pony back in the 3' class and having her jump everything in her old style and getting the amazing adrenline rush in the jump off again
>putting in for and passing my stage 2 even though it meant riding and jumping horses I'd never seen before which was the last bit of phobia I had to get over.
> getting asked to ride and school the 'quality' horses by my boss because he trusted I wouldn't panic if they were fresh.

Sounds like a lot of achievements but really it was just getting my confidence back.

I adopted a 4yo TB as a companion for my Connemara. I thought I would get an older pony but the welfare organisation badly needed a home for this fellow with someone with time to give him. The poor lad was found almost starved to death as a 2yo but he's the picture of health now and hoovering my hay. I went to see him and fell in love with his lovely kind nature. He's best buddies with my connie now and we feel like he's always been with us. Just delighted its worked out so well as he'd been homed out before and it didn't work.

My first task with him was teaching to pick up his feet and he's now doing it like a pro and stood beautifully for the farrier last week. It was just a small thing but very satisfying. Although he's been backed he's done virtually no ridden work and my aim in the new year is to get him going as it would be nice for him to go out and about on hacks and have a more interesting life.

Must get the photo thing going and put some pics in the gallery.

Can't say I have any riding achievements

I am very proud to have my old boy alive though. He really shouldn't be now, but he has not only gone into this winter looking great and with weight on; he is thus far keeping that weight on!
grin.gif

I have lost 3 stone since the summer and if I loose another stone I am going to start to ride him again! (he, he little does he know ha, ha)

Gah, I do wish you wouldn't put yourself down!

I think you came second in your class at Eccleshall show didn't you? Can't remember if you told me that you came second or third, but either way, it is a MASSIVE achievement!

Also, (if I remember your previous weight correctly

), losing three stone makes you lighter than me now! I'm going to have to go on a diet to keep up with the new slimline you!

You should be really proud of yourself hun! Well done you!

(Would love to see Jerrys face when you get his saddle and bridle on him, lol!
grin.gif
)

As for me, well Snowy is holding his weight well, though with OH's injury, and me doing holiday cover at work, he's not getting ridden so we've achieved bugger all really.
frown.gif

Still, hopeful that we can do a bit more with him next year.

I think everyone on this thread has done amazingly well!

He, he, I wasn't putting myself down, at the time of writing I didn't think of any riding things!

But, yes you are right. I did come second at Eccleshall. It was my first ever show.

I was disappointed that I didn't do the Hunter class, but with Milly slipping in her warm up, I decided not to and I was right; especially as the winner of that class hit the deck just like Milly and I did in our first Dressage.

Milly and I are both improved and still improving, but it is so frustrating not having a school to work her in. There is only so much schooling you can do out on a hack and cornering is not one of those things!

The weight side of things is going very well, especially as I am not really doing anything to loose it!

I really would love to ride Jerry again. So, I've got to keep at it. If I could get the old git fit, I would like to take him in some Veteran classes. I think he would be shocked at my riding now! Although I am sure he would still test me!
grin.gif

I doubt I am lighter than you! As, I was reaching the point of being a huge heffer!

You have achieved loads with Snowy!
grin.gif
He is alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he wouldn't have been if you and J hadn't taken him on.

Ummm...

Riding- Breaking Pip, and competeing him in dressage. Because he is the first Pony I have broken without even the slightest help.

Driving- East Anglian Pre-novice driving 3DE champion. Because I wouldn't have even dreamed of completing a 3DE 2 years ago, having never driven.

Moochie, Barbara Scott used to hire her school out during the day (mid-week) - might be worth giving her a ring?
Also, I think Manor Lodge (just past Pelwall Hall in Market Drayton) hire their outdoor arena out. Anthony used to use it when buyers came out to try his horses. I think they're cheaper than barbs, and the surface is better, so it might be worth you boxing Mills up and taking her for a schooling session when you have a free morning or afternoon.

Axey going from being a silly spooky youngster to becoming a lovely calm well mannered horse.
and getting 73% in a prelim!

edited to add jumping Axey has been a great achievement, he used to scare me silly because he massively overjumped everything but now he's a bit more economical and we recently jumped a 1 metre course including a wall and a gate

My horse winning his section in our first proper ODE, and carting me round the xc having the time of his life!
Also learning after 4 years that he can canter in a collected fashion ALL THE WAY round our school!
Isn't it nice when things go right!
Nice to be able to right the good bits down, helps you forget about the bad bits!!!

Has to be winning Supreme Champion at the Wicklow Branch Irish Draught Horse Society show in July 07. It was our first mare and foal class, first time to have Bandit travel with his mum and lead!

After winning the broodmare championship (same day as Supreme championship)

It's been an amazing year! Here's to 2008!!

I had thought about Barbs, as I can hack up to it.

The surface in there would be fine for Milly, as she can dig into it! I think she might come out orange though!
grin.gif

I haven't got a clue where Manor Lodge is!

Think I will give Barb a call in the New Year and take it from there.

Actually that coloured foal did win best dressage foal for the East Midlands round but it was my chestnut Trakehner filly that won at the West Midlands round and then went onto to be top junior dressage foal. The coloured filly (Diva) has been sold to a showing home in Durham so I hope to see her out and about next year!!

I think my best achievement is the major improvement in my riding, which is all thanks to my lovely lovely horse....we have come so far in a year and the best part is, we still have a very long way to go!

Mine was going to my first and only show so far, i did an inhand veteran class and we came second, and qualified for the veteran horse of the year, it did not stop raining that day either but i loved it and felt so proud of my mare

Astrasfirstshow078-1.jpg

i have not shown her since and more than likely wont as she gets very stressed travelling, i refuse to take her to shows for my benefit only when she clearly gets stressed, but i have that one wonderful day to remember and thats all i need, saying that, if there any shows next year that are hacking distance i may well go along

Mine was winning two classes at Horse World's annual show in September, I have suffered a loss of confidence this year and thought I'd give in hand showing a try and I couldnt believe it when we won 2 big classes, I was in complete shock for days and then we went to our first NPS show in October to see if it was a fluke and we came 3rd.... Bath & West here we come, I cant wait until the 2008 show season.
