What has been your "indespensable item" this winter??

After that a maplin solar powered battery charger, has been nicely topping up fencer battery all winter during daylight
i don't miss having to lug that dead weight battery in to shed to charge it. what do they put in those friggin batteries that weights so much, condensed black holes?

I vote for my waterproof trousers - as long as my legs are dry and warm I find everything else is just about bearable!

Also I've just discovered the wonders of pig oil, it's good stuff.
 
My sand turnout pens! Could not do without them now, some of my horses are out in them 24/7 and they're so happy. They're 15m x 15m, so plenty of room to move about.....and no mud :p Also my Indoor arena, I normally don't ride much in the winter, now there's no excuse!
 
£4.50 thermal tights from Tesco, have kept my legs warm under my jods even when I've been soaked.
Sealskin gloves my sister bought me for Xmas.
Hemp hand cream.
Chocolate...

My "can't live without" items this winter have been my ariat wellies, wellie warmers, thermos flask (although a kettle may now be on the horizon if I can find a working plug to use it with!), falpro and premier equine rugs that have both excelled in standing up to the rain, my lovely super warm fleecey goodhands gloves, magic brush. Oh and the super huge 2-wheeled wheelbarrows at the yard I'm on now are awesome, don't know how I'd cope with no longer having rubber matting without the use of them!
 
Water proof trousers!

My tail rags (brought them years ago can't remember the proper name!) Stops Highland tail turning into dreadlocks.

the rug drier , lovely when someone puts a rug on, I stick my hands underneath! Yard cat loves it too.
 
having my horse on part livery so i only have to endure the wet and mud twice a week :D

outdoor arena (means for the first winter i can ride consistently)
my ariat gloves
toggi canyons (my feet haven't been wet or cold once in the last 2 winters)
Welly socks - been living in them since October
 
Hoggs Green-King over trousers, I don't know how old they are now, but they are still going strong and completely waterproof. I do all my yard work in them and my £7.99 bright red Aldi wellies! Peel them off and ta daaa! Clean and dry and ready for action!

Horse on livery with a horsewalker, musto coats, ear warmers, mark todd thinsulate gloves, newmarket fleece exercise sheet and oodles of towels plus a truck with awesome heating :)

Fantastic turnout (only mud is due to an enthusiastic mole in the walkway, and Figs wallowing pits he has dug up)

aww!

agree with all above, i think basically having a yard we designed ourself, so everything is to hand,well drained etc is a life saver in terms of time, effort and money.

and a close knit team :) we talk every day, discuss small changes to rugs, feed, routine etc and thus no small issue ever escalates, its always dealt with at the *small* stage.

would also say-wilkinsons! is there nothing that shop does not sell (a version of) that is cheaper than tack shops! love it!
 
Ariat wellies that lace up the front so they don't get sucked off in the mud.
Halleys Feeds ad-lib blox and grass blox to give the horses something to nibble on when they are in.
Snack-a-ball, same as above.
Waterproof over-trousers.
Rambo Supreme turnouts - waterproof, breathable and well-fitting.
Thankfully, use of a bit of hardstanding and round pen for turnout.
 
On the reccomendation of a friend I got some drywalker boots that have kept my feet really warm and dry and I also invested in some sealskinz gloves so along with one of my silly hats I have the extremities warm and dry so stayed relatively comfortable even if the weather has been rubbish
