Well it is four years ago today since this little ball of fluff came home at 15 months. As I don't know his exact birthday - sometime early July. I use his arrival day for it.

Happy Birthday Stinky

What an amazing four years I have had - he has taught me so much and given me great satisfaction and fun in this time. I am so happy that I fell in love with those kind brown eyes and bought him on the spot.

Actually to be 100% honest, today he is covered in mud, hair full of dreads and burrs and looks like a yak - he looks like he has been run on the marshes and never seen a show ring.

Saturday when he starts to come in at night, I am going to spend several hours clipping, bathing and bagging him up for the winter - the annual 6 weeks of no rugs, minimal grooming and being left as a wild thing are over for another year.

Wish us luck - next weekend we are attempting our first go at SJ - it will be nice to do something else other than showing and dressage.

He's lovely, congrats and good luck with him! I suppose I've had a busy last 4 years too!
Got pregnant, had twins!! Loaned out mare whilst pregnant!
Got mare back from loan, qualified for BD Areas final! Mare went to stud, got pregnant, had a large chestnut colt by Movistar! Got a promotion at work! Now bought a welsh colt foal as a companion and weaned both foals.... Now have mare back under saddle and going amazing! Ready for the dressage ring again after only 2 weeks in work! (And breathe!!!) hehe!!!!

I did not buy him for his potential, much as I would love to say I did. I had just been placing a deposit on my perfect gypsy mare (that took me nearly a year to find) when I saw him in the field.

I just fell in love and knew he was the one for me, though I didn't know why. When I got him home and he stood next to old Cairo - they had exactly the same kind eye and expression and I then realised why I bought him - I wanted something with the nature of the old man.

Where I bought him from has a reputation for only having good gypsy horses for sale, but he has turned out to be all I hoped for - a good all rounder who loves cuddles and has the sweetest cheeky temperament.

Yes that is busy - new babies on both sides.

I too changed jobs - much nicer one and we sadly lost Cairo last year and now have a young clydesdale mare the same age as Stinky who is just starting to school reasonably well and also has a very cuddly and sweet nature, though a lot more placid and less cheeky than Stinky.

As one breeder said when looking for her, (she bred both) she likes a ratio of one gypsy cob to five clydesdale youngsters to bring on - not because they are difficult, but because they are into everything the minute your back is turned, but the clydes just stand and behave.

Unfortunately, Stinky is teaching Farra to be a big gypsy cob - she is far more cheeky than she was a year ago.

OMG Look at Stinky go, I'm afraid he has stuck in my head as the cheeky youngster you were taking out for walks to see the world.

Mine on the hrose front hasbeen not so good, retired Mac with leg issues, bought Atty, now Atty has worse leg issues than Mac.
But I did get married and have a fab honeymoon

Let me see - I got preganat with my second child and couldn't ride for the whole pregnancy and the year after as I had pelvic problems and then we decided to move from Ireland to the UK, THEN my poor mare had massive problems with arthritis and her petula bone so we have only just got back into working again in the last year, while I gave up my business and decided to go back to Uni to do an MA full time. So its been eventful!

Moved to dartmoor, bought a field, got married, had fab honeymoon, bought a horse for OH (and companion to mine) he didn't ride it, bred from it, now have 2 year old filly, bought another horses for OH, he didn't ride it, sold it, loaned another four ponies in sucession as various companions. Had one dog put down (old age) got another, she was killed, got another, he was much older than rescue charity said and now lives with my parents, got another, he is a lunatic who will probably never make a decent shooting dog, got another puppy... got 10 ex battery hens, now have chickens, bantams, guinea fowl, geese, ducks... stopped being a driving instructor, bought feed, pet and tack shop. Did my first and last ever dressage test, was placed (got a rosette, therefore can give up!), did a few shows, got a few rosettes. Got three jacob sheep. There must be more, I feel busier than that!

Theresa_F, I can see why you fell for him, whilst you have your pics out, maybe we could have some more of Cairo to remember him by?

Happy birthday Chancer

In the last four years I brought Fudge, perfected our hacking and resolved the handling issues, fell off and badly hurt myself losing my confidence completely, took a years worth of lessons at a riding school, we are now perfecting our flat work.
Started showing both my two and caught the showing bug and started competing in dressage again.

He looks brilliant, really lovely and good luck for the SJ - go for it!

My four years were quiet to start with, still no horse and little hope of that dream coming true, then a little windfall and 2years ago George came to me. I have gone from being extremely nervous to being able to do some hacking, dressage and SJ and lo and behold even some xc and rosettes to boot!

Andy and I still miss Cairo terribly - rarely a day goes by and we don't think of him and can still end up in tears. We also do remember the fun things and can now laugh at memories. Cant' believe it is now over a year since that sad day.

If you want to see pics of the old boy then use this link:

This is one of my favs, Chancer is 20 months and Cairo is teaching him to be led off a horse so we can start to go out and see more of the world,he is getting his good boy cuddle at the end of the session.

He was so patient with him and took him out for miles teaching him how to be a good steady horse. Though sometimes did like to get his own back on the little pest and nip the top of Stinky's head when going along.

Farra has some big hooves to fill, and so far she is doing a pretty good job at being loved by all who have met her, just like he was.
