What have you done with your horses this week?

I had mine put down yesterday, he broke his shoulder out in the paddock :( Rather ended the the day for me :(

So sorry to hear this. I hope 2017 gets better for you.

I enjoyed reading everyone's updates, and FestiveFuzz your new boy looks smashing!

My horse is at boot camp because I can't persuade him to come to terms with shifting his focus away from other horses to doing what I would like him to do. I've been to ride him there this week and am a bit disappointed by the lack of improvement in his way of going in the school, but he did walk down the road and back for me without having a meltdown, so maybe some progress. Hard to tell really, but it was nice to be back on board. "I've just got to ride better" is the long and short of it. **sigh**

Saturday gave lessons
Sunday went out with the family so a quick do
Monday went showjumping
tuesday went to a lesson Wednesday another quick do as visited daughter
thursday refenced the paddock
Today bathed pony from head to rug and tail to rug plus all her lesgs and turned her out in the long grass hope it keeps her clean
tomorrow showing as a veteran in hand and ridden
sunday cross country training
Bearing in mind I dont ride any more I seem to be busier than ever as does the old girl who is supposed to be retired

Not too much but fairly good for first week of Jan with 2 horses, no facilities at yard and working full time :)

New Year's Eve - friend came out so he rode my 5 yo and I rode my cob, nice 2 hr hack, bit of cantering and lots of bridleways
New Year's Day - horrible weather and I've had a bad cold so gave in and slept in front of the wood-burner! Horses had food and scratches, and that was about it!
Monday, lovely ride on 5 yo with a friend for about 1 1/2 hours, confronted the (recently scary, but regularly seen!) local alpaca herd
Tues - back to work, early start and late finish so no chance to ride
Weds - quick early morning ride on cob, only had 40 mins so worked on bending, stretching and some lateral work on lanes round yard
Thurs - early morning ride on 5yo, only 40 mins but working on a good rythym, forward stretch with consistency in contact. Did some turns on the forehand at suitable points of the ride and baby leg yield
Fri - rode cob before work, only an hour but asking for shoulder in and leg yield to help supple him up (old injury so gets stiff), two circuits of a local daffodil field in a balanced canter - 3 sides are uphill and then walk down a steep downhill
Plan for weekend - active hour/hour and a half hack for both on Sat, and a schooling session at a local arena for the 5 yo on Sunday

Also torchlight poo-picking each night as horses still out thanks to mild weather and grass still growing.

Hope to build the morning rides - have changed hours at work for the darker months starting this week - working 10-6 so more time to ride in the morning, but have been cutting it a bit fine this week - need to get on board by 7.45 to get a worthwhile ride.

All of mine are fit and rather full of themselves at the moment so I'm looking forwards to being able to get out hacking - they can expel some of their energy marching up and down the local hills. ;)

This week my lot have done:

Mon - day off (out).
Tues - Be flat lesson (lateral work, then worked on dr test for the weekend), R, Bl and T flatwork. Walker PM
Wed - B hack (roadwork), R and T pole work/jumping, and Bl grid work. Walker PM
Thurs - Be, R, Bl and T flatwork. Walker PM
Fri - Be jump, R, Bl and T flatwork (run through dr tests for the weekend). Walker PM.

Tomorrow R and Bl will jump and B and T will do some pole work, and then on Sunday Be and R are at dressage. Bl and T will go on the walker.

Thanks lovely. He's awesome, I just need to learn how to ride him. Essentially have come to the conclusion I also have just got to learn to ride better as my positional faults are way more noticeable on this chap as he's got so many buttons. At least it gives me something to focus on this year.

This is such a good thread and has made me feel all happy again, frustrations shared are frustrations halved!! Have not had time or daylight to do much of anything with my little Section A since October but she does get a daily cuddle and carrot and loves a good rub under her neck while my riding mare has been having a bit of an easy time too! Had managed to ride at least 3 times a week until early December but then toddlers, xmas and work have taken over and have barely managed one hack a week since! Come ON light evenings!! Boy do I miss you!! Dark evenings grooming and having cuddles in the lit field shelter with my 2 girls when kids are in bed just isn't enough 😱😂xxx

This was a really quiet week for us. Show on sat day off Sunday then Monday too as had a bit of a cold. Short ride in school wed. Lunged tonight. Hack tomorrow. Longer hack Sunday. Usually works daily so not happy about the way it's gone... next week new start! Xx

Had a really amazing schooling session last night with my 5yo- Just put poles on the ground for the hell of it and ended up actually managing lead changes both directions! Chuffed doesn't cover it!

Over last weekend (plus Monday) myself and friend hacked out together, I was on my loan Exmoor 12.2 tank, and friend was on my traddie cob. Lovely rides, just hacking chatting & chilling!

Took my trad-lad out on his own during the week, he napped horribly, hasn't been so naughty as that for a long long while, think possibly because one of the horses in the other field - part of the Big Herd, had been put into a different field and was calling. It doesn't take a lot with His Lordship, but at least the napping, whilst unpleasant while it did last, was over quite quickly and the stroppy blighter had completely got over himself ten minutes down the road and forgotten all about the racket, and we had a lovely ride in the sunshine! Cobs, who'd have 'em.

Vet here Thursday for vac's and check teeth for everyone, so a lazy end to the week for them as vet advised to let them take it easy and not let them work up a sweat, can be gently hacked at the weekend so will be doing that.

Went to see a pony today: nice little chap, having vetting done Tuesday!!! OMG I WANT this pony. Have looked at way too many this year and two I've really liked failed vettings, so hoping this will be third time lucky. Holding my breath and keeping every dang thing crossed............

So that's my week.

The big lad is still off work after doing this corker to himself the week before Christmas, which required stapling-

My mare has done some hacking around the farmland and a lunging session. Then I was struck down by the flu/virus/plague from hell so she's on a bit of a mini-break while I attempt to stay alive.

One horse has just been taking it easy - no work, just eating!
The other has been ridden daily, and had a lesson yesterday. Physio coming tomorrow so she'll probably have today off.

Christmas eve mid ride mine goes lame so I get off and lead her home about an hour. Called vet out ( still dreading the arrival of that bill!) I had been working loads before this thinking I can spend more time with her on days off after xmas. Ended up with her in for a week with poultice for foot absess. Gave her good groom, tidy up and re- did clip which I had been meaning to do for ages. Not riding actually allowed me more time for this, normally everything is a rush before dark!
Have started riding again now she's happy, been for a couple of short hacks, will go out again later today and resume!

Horse is turned out because of tendon injury so...

Brought in, brushed thoroughly the other day, chucked back out, then brought in for farrier, got a treat of a slice of hay chucked in front of her (its summer here and the grass is longer than my electric tape standards are high), brushed heaps again, feet trimmed, hung out for a bit and grazed in a circle around me while I chatted to one of the mums about her daughters new pony. Accidentally have taught my 600kg horse who used to be quite standoffish that hands and pockets are an endless source of yummy.

Until this morning all I had done was look after him, mucking out, carrying water to the field because our troughs were frozen, moved the fencing back from the mud a bit more, carried hay out to the field and scraping mud off of everything once the frost went. Halfway through the holiday I went down with this horrid head cold/virus thing and passed all duties to my yard mate for 2 days. I have managed to box him up and take him to the local forest this morning where we met up with his best friend and had a nice little potter round, was lovely to be back on board, last ride was Xmas day! He, bless him, couldnt give a flying fig whether hes ridden or not so was his normal, chilled self :)

I made up for a pretty quiet week last week by taking them both to riding club clinic yesterday. They were both fab and I can't move today!

Rode once over the weekend, he needs consistency and at the moment I'm just not getting that. I'm getting fed up with being wet, cold and doing everything in the dark, my motivation to ride is lacking as a result and my horse is bored. Can't turn them out at all as the field is trashed, so they're getting turn out on the arena but of course it's not the same. Roll on Spring.

Mine has been in a programme of rehabilitation to fitted him up since early December. He's managing being ridden once a week with upto 4 other sessions of long-reining and walking out in hand. He's done quite lengthy sessions but has been reduced to upto half an hour per session at walk. This has got to be kept up until new hoof growth. Only another 6 months to go...
