What have you given up for your horse?

I seem to have given up a social life and possibly the chance of a career lol.

Before I had to TB's to pay for I wore designer clothes, drove a fast car (Mini Cooper - which was subsequently sold to pay for one of the horses), partied at least twice a week, ate in nice places weekly and studied hard. Since the horses I live in anything Joules, drive a Corsa, go out once a month if I'm lucky and only dine out on special occasions or if there is a voucher! I may have also fluffed my degree slightly by going out competing too much! But on the other hand I am very happy with my 'kids' and wouldn't give either of them up for a Mulberry! They live in 5* luxary with all the designer gear while I scrimp and save.

right now - moving out while im at uni lol!

but thats about it. if i want something, i get a 2nd job or work more hours in the one im currently in :)

its more time than anything for me, but wouldnt have it any other way :)

My roof leaks, the only new clothing I have brought for myself in the past 18 months is a new bra and a pair of big knickers, the animals food is always brought before I work out how much I have left to feed myself. I have only ever been away from them twice, once for 8 days while I was in America and once for a weekend to attend a friends wedding. Other than that and a couple of over night stays in hospital I have seen them at least once every day over the past 15 years that I have had these ones... The others before this lot had bigger gaps as I was away for a period of 2 years but still saw them at least twice a week during that period.

So to start a list;
1. warmth
2. clothes
3. food
4. holidays
5. cars
6. social life
7. various jobs
8. several boyfriends (I do like my horses more than them though so can't blame them!)
9. my feminity (hair cuts are a memory unless I take the sissors out myself, make up is a mystery to me and moisturiser a waste of cash when you could be getting a better winter rug instead...)
10. smoking - well almost and I wanted to do that anyway so again can't blame them for that.

I don't regret any of it and would rather have my boys and girls than all those things!

Haha, I got an email from a friend the other day who is working in australia for a year, she is holidaying in Bali in March and invited a load of us along. For a brief millisecond I looked out at the snow and thought - holiday in Bali, could sell the pony!! :D Don't think so, but my automatic reaction to any holiday invitations is most definitely a no unless it's a caravan in Bognor!

A lot, but the biggest one is my sanity!! Seriously, I'm sure I wouldn't appear half as nutty to other people if I didn't spend all my time worrying about them :)

And wouldn't have it any other way ;P

I gave up my life basically had no real social life, horses always got feed, bedding and anything else before I would think about myself...and it will always be this way too.

Anxiety and alcoholism.
My horse has saved me, my sanity and my relationship.
I think a few material possessions are a small price to pay for what he's given me back in terms of quality of life and sorting my ***** out.

Social Life, haven't bough myself any clothes since i started looking after them, but if it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't of made it through my GCSE's. The stress was so bad that I had nosebleeds, panic attacks, migranes. If it wasn't for B then I probably would of bee admitted to hospital, she honestly helped me through that

Haha. love it. Totally agree with you though!!! :D

That's a rubbish poll but a good topic for a forum thread.

There are not enough options and it's only possible to choose one. Both 2 and 3 apply to me and I can think of a couple of things that could be added to the list.

Call me cycnical but I wonder if perhaps the manager of the website is jealous of all the fun, games, hits and potential customers on H&H and is using it to get a piece of it.

I think I'll stay with HHO thanks.

What I have given up pales into insignificance as to what I get from owning Archie.

However, my family have made huge sacrifices to allow me to have him. No holidays, a tight budget and no spontaneous days out ... we save or use vouchers for our special occassions. Do they moan? No, not at all. I am very, very lucky.

I am so truly thankful to them and hope that before too long we will be able to go on a lovely family holiday.

too much to list i think!
a social life! i think xmas is the only time i actually sit down and enjoy myself with friends and family (after sorting out the horses of course)
my career.
my money!
my health (now i have a bad back, and stiff joints from all the lifting and tipping ect)
my freedom (cant go anywhere or do anything without planning around the horses.

would i change it though??? no i dont think i would. i love them all x:)

Just about everything!

Nearly sold my house a couple of years back so that I could buy a towing vehicle and float after being so fed up not being able to get to shows. Fortunately a lovely truck came up for sale through our Pony Club area news and I harrased my bank manager till she crumbled and allowed me to borrow for it.

I've become a lot more sensible over the years as to what I spend on my lot. I had 18mths on the dole so had to really economise. Now back at work I can be more generous but after having a very big sort out of my horse stuff I realised that I have far more gear than I need. I found three pairs of show gloves that I thought I'd lost and had been replacing each show season! Now I have a major tidy every few weeks and I've saved myself a fortune.
Priorities
Animals first - Horses, Cat, Dogs, Rabbit, Cockatiels, Mice
Household bills
Me - if there is anything left!

Nothing.

If I couldn't afford to maintain the lifestyle I had before I got him, I would never have bought him. He's on DIY & do everything myself - I "lose" four hours a day tops to him.

If I was broke, he'd go out on loan to as a gooder home as I could get for him. No point struggling and not eating myself as i'd be doing him no favours at all! I'd never sell him though.
