just wondering what sacrifices you may have made to make it possible for you to compete? i've fortunately just had a bit of a pay rise which helps, but apart from that i don't go out with friends/don't buy clothes etc and try not to waste money where unnecessary (buying junkfood usually)!

Yep, that's horses, I have lots of nice clothes [at one time I had nothing to wear that was not destined for the yard!].
No savings for a rainy day that does not factor in horse bills.
I buy make up, lots of treats in the food department, a few trips away, not luxury trips, just "holidays".

No holidays, only occasionally "go out", limited and inexpensive new clothes/shoes, no savings, no hope of buying a home...

i buy most of my clothes from charity shops (luckily i love vintage!)
i haven't had a holiday in 5 years :|
i have no savings, my money is invested in horses but i will be cashing it in soon (I buy & produce so it very much is an investment rather than never seeing it again) but obviously it is risky
i go out with my friends probably once a month maximum if I am lucky

If I could give up the junk food, I could compete, AND feel rich :/ But.... it calls to me!
Bonus of all your friends being on the internet though is they're usually a lot cheaper to meet up with :p (also, yes, I don't really pay attention to what I read on the internet!!)

im quite lucky in the fact that my only sacrifice is not having a newer and cleaner car!
im not the going out type so dont waste money there and im not the girly type so again i dont spend money on any of that.

My sanity :D

Otherwise, I don't spend money on myself generally, don't have much in the way of savings, have little free time etc :)

Pretty much life, the universe and everything. I did it for over 15 years, and now I have retired from the full on, serious stuff I suddenly have money ........ and time and a life outside of endurance riding, but I wouldn't swap those years for anything.

My life... I work full time more or less so that we can afford the horses as well as kids, property etc etc. If we didn't have horses I could drop at least one day a week.
But riding with my daughter (she's entered for her first 50 miler this weekend, at the age of 10) make sit worth it.
