What have you sacrificed to keep your horses?

i havent been on holiday for 25 years, rarely go out socially, am retired and still have a mortgage which will never be paid off as its interest only, my car is 10 years old and i cant even afford to get it serviced, i still work part time, if i need new clothes i get the cheapest from sainsburys or tesco, my latest pair of jeans cost £12. i dont have central heating and cant afford to borrow any more money to have it put in so still have to lug coal in for the fire. havent been to the dentist for 6 years as cant afford the treatment.
however, my horse has her teeth done annually, has her vaccination done annually, shod 6 weekly... has a stable with full rubber matting and a good bed, have paid a bit more for decent hay ready for the winter. she has all different weights of rugs, with neck covers and if she needs anything she will get it . i wouldnt change the way i do things but i would love to just have enough money to treat myself sometimes!!!!! Oh and dont get me started on the dogs!!!!

I also agree I have sacrificed nice hands and nails! Handing over money or anyone seeing my hands is just embarrassment now with permenantly chipped nails that remain black underneath no matter how much I use a nail brush and mud that might as well be tattooed into my fingers! I have also sacrificed days where you don't have to worry if your going to smell of horse or the yard before going out anywhere and planning if you have time for a shower afterwards even if you have literally checked on them in the field:rolleyes:

My spare room! Renting it out covers stable cost (shame he can't just live in there really) and tutoring covers his shoes. I very rarely buy new clothes etc. Both him and the cat get the best food I can afford... i'll have whatever is on offer or eat at my mum's house! I still manage nights out and take aways but they could be sacrificed if needs be! :)

a life in general haha :o

we spend £26 every 2 weeks to feed 5 people - and it does if we are wise with it

a lot of bills aren't paid

5 of us in a 2 bedroom house :o

animals are paid for first

clothes... i only have jods and yard t-shirts and a pair of leggings :o

we dont eat out or take away unless i have sold something or we get a bonus in our income

my mum who is the main earner was made redundant in july - everything was sold horses livery paid 6 months in advanced, hay for the whole of the winter was bought and enough feed for 6 months we are lucky that mum found a new job in september so everything we bought is saving us money over the winter but we will still be broke because there is always something else to buy for the horses :o

wow genuinly how do you do that?! Our food bills are getting higher and higher so any tips would be great!

i want everything so work alot to pay for the horses, holidays etc. The time will come when i have to grow up a bit and buy a house etc so i'm making the most of it at the moment

Still live @ home, work monday to friday seeking evening and weekend work, no going out, no expensive clothes or holidays ..... But I wouldn't change any of it or I wouldn't have my lovely boy x

A good social life.....booze.

Im very very skint this month - my cash flow is horrific after starting a new job and getting paid monthly not weekly. that really hurts.

So im living in my overdraft and paying the daily rate for the usage. go me.

But seeing my horse daily and knowing I pay for her and shes mine makes it worthwhile :)

I sacrifice a life, going out, hair cut (January was the last time), but most importantly sanity, for the fact he is always giving me a heart attack with the amount of times he's been injured!

But he gives me everything back, and makes me a happy person :D

When i lost my job ALOT of bills went unpaid for me to be able to keep my horses and my savings were wiped out. Although i didnt keep them at livery, I moved them from my very nice Farm to where I have them now. I dont have anyfacilities (didnt have much to begin with) and no leccy just running water.

Then OH lost his job and even more things went but the horses still remained. Our lives have pretty much taken a back seat and i cant afford as many things as I used to with ony one wage between the two of us and two cars to keep but we scrape by and I sometimes make enough overtime to allow me out and about with my guys :)
