What have you tasted that was only meant for hosses?

Out of curiosity, I try most of what I feed to them - the only thing I like is Cider Vinegar - very nice, refreshing drink when you add hot water :)

Was just discussing this with my 10 year old at the weekend, telling him what I used to eat at his age when I was at the yard and 'starving' but still had ages to go until being picked up.

Main staples back then were: :D

Locust beans were my favorite. Yum.
Equivite milk pellets.
Flaked maize.
Micronised flaked barley.
Molassed sugar beet, only if I was desperate as it was a bit gritty.

And when it came out, Bailey's bread meal was a nice change :D :D

I work in a men's prison, I took a group of the lads out for a smoke break when I put my hands in my pockets & found some horse treats, so I handed them round!

A couple of them reacted like I was trying to give them poison! But one guy took them & thought they were really nice - but he'd been in prison for 17 years so his taste buds probably were't very refined.

Locust beans - that's the one! Yummy!

Likits and Likits "snaks"
Garlic granules haha
Uncle Jimmys Licky Thing in banana blast :o
A salt lick
Have had bran thrown in my mouth, didn't appreciate that, tasted like sawdust!!

Likits, likit bars, horselyx, salt licks, garlic granules, pony nuts, paddock mix, lincoln apple flavoured horse treats, them crunchy carrot flavoured treats that were bright orange.

Idiotpony always goes crazy trying to shove his nose into his Kevin Bacon, its made me really curious to try it myself. Resisted temptation so far!

Sedalin, Dormesedan :o

Hay, normally clouds of

I normally eat one of their carrots on way up to field, gets them all running over and I get 1 of my 5 a day :D

Nibbled on amazing smelling Badminton pony good-doer cubes. Like herbal tea, they smelled far better than they tasted.

Likits...apple is nicer than cherry!!
Those mints that came in a plastic tube, I can't remember what they were called, anyhoo yuck.
Pony nut, it was just dry and bitty
Herbal treat, it was ok actually?!?
Speedi Beet (after it had soaked!!) it was soggy and didn't taste of anything, maybe I didn't eat enough to get a good taste???

Lickits are lovely and the new christmas flavours look really good!!!
The nicest thing i have ever tried is this horse cough syrup that just tastes like melted down blackjacks - yummy. I think its called koff-eze.

I accidentally tasted TopSpec Calmer.. it's supposed to taste of caramel. It definitely doesn't and I now totally understand why the horse in question refuses to eat it..

Pony nuts, conditioning cubes, likkit (before the horse!) and ummm hoof oil :o

It was by accident! Surprisingly, it wasn't as bad as I thought!

Same here, although hoof oil basically tastes like it smells somehow. Ive tried pretty much everything my horses have - all their feeds (various cubes, sugar beet, chaffs etc.) and their supplements, oh and their licks. Anything they eat I try, I guess I should know what it tastes like!

Worst thing I've tried was Redcell which I was duped into while working at a racing yard :p

My 2yr old son is absolutely mad about any kind of pellet type feed (balancers, nuts), so much so I hv to put something on th top of th feed bin to stop him sticking his arm in to grab a handful. I tried them and theyr dry and bitty so don't see th attraction at all :)

Mare's milk :D In my defence I was only little but mum was milking a shire mare that had rejected her foal and kept wondering why the milk level in the bucket wasn't going up then twigged I was drinking it  :o :D

I once ate a whole packet of Lincoln Horsemints, they were kinda powdery but still nice enough for me to go back for more. And more and more and more!

Likits - most flavours (carrot is yuck, the rest are pretty nice)
Likit bars - again, most flavours
Horselyx Original (blue tub - not the best, kinda gritty)
Himalayan salt lick - Not bad
Garlic powder (accidental, I inhaled it when it poofed in my face... had garlic breath for ages afterwards)
Norvite Mineral supplement (powdery yuck)
Equimins Tasty Treats :o
Cornucrescine Hoof Ointment - Yuckyuckyuckyuckyuck. Never pull gloves off with your teeth!
Haylage - smells so good, not so tasty
Young grass shoots

I'm sure there is more but you get the jist... I was/ am strange.

A couple of years ago i noticed my pony was eating his Likits quicker than normal..A few days later when i went to kiss my 4 year old goodnight , there she was in bed , curled up with the half eaten Likit.Little madam had hidden it under her bed and every night was having a nibble before she went to sleep :)

"Inspired" by this thread - today a pal bought some Red Cell as pony significantly anaemic. "Mmmm she says, smells like marzipan" - marzipan happens to be one of my most favourite things so I stuck my nose in and she wasn't wrong. Then I stuck my finger in and.......bleurgh......absolutely vile. Still feel sick just thinking of it!

Horse mints which were very tasty - can't remember what brand equimint maybe? They came in a white tube - probably the ones somebody else said they hated

Various bits of mix some of which were nicer than others
