Enigma is my 16 month old Lusitano colt. He didn't have the best start and was skin and bones when he arrived about 4 moths ago. His dam is 15.3hh and his sire is 16hh. He is currently 14hh.

This was him in August (must get some photos of him as he looks now)

I am especially concerned as I'm tall and I don't think I'd be happy riding him if he comes out much under 15.2hh. This is me on a simillar 15.2 luso and I think I'd look very out of proportion on anything smaller.

I think he will make a good 15.2hh. Do you feed him a balancer at all? I fed my baby Top spec from a foal. His parents were 17hh.

He grew to 17.2hh as a 4yo,

Good luck with him

That's encouraging. Thank you. I'm not feeding him a balancer at the moment- just D&H mare and youngstock. I'll go the the feed merchant today and discuss it with them.

tbh i think it can be impossible to tell, particularly without knowing how tall the grandparents are etc.

my 4yro is 18hh, out of a 16.1hh mare and and a 16.3hh stallion.

his full sister is 16.1hh and his 3/4 brother is 17.2hh.

p.p.s btw my farrier has warned me from feeding too much protein mix etc because he says it encorages to bones to grow quicker than the tendons leading to lots of feet and leg problems. my baby is on a very light diet of happy hoof and very small amount of d & h youngstock mix.
