What is a safe height stable door for a mini/Shetland? I want it low enough for it to be able to see out but not so low it could jump out if it had a mind to. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I leave my stable door open for my 11hh rescue and have put 2 slip rails in the doorway.... that way if a friends horse has come to visit, I can still use the stable. (I did have to add a door chain as well though as the little toad used the bottom rail to stand on and climbed over the top one!). I just compared where the normal door came up to on my horse's chest and worked it out roughly the same for the little one.

I stood my Shettie in the doorway and marked on the door frame the equivalent of where the door would be on a bigger horse then made a door at that height. I still have the original door that I can put back on if I ever needed the stable for a bigger horse.

I've done the same for my 2 tinies, but used redundant top doors off the stables & cut them down a bit
But, both the outside 'big' doors are still there & hooked flat back to the outside wall.
I got different hinges for the mini-doors that lift off on one stable - and the other is hinged opposite hand. Both have the closing top bolt go 'home' into the door frame as I drilled holes there, and same for bottom bolt.
Has taken me less than 2 mins to revert back to std door if needed on the lift off one, and the outside door can close over the top of 2nd box mini-door :)

As above. Window in a full size door, so you can use it if you need to put a bigger horse in there. It's also unbearably cute :)

Yup, a 'window' is a good idea. I have a friend who spent a fortune on some very posh stables for her minis, but discovered the doors weren't high enough and some of them would just jump out over the doors. An opening in a standard door stops this happening!

I had a ramp put in for my donkey who was 10 hands, so it was a normal pony door and a concrete ramp

What height is the pony? My doors are approx 31” and no one has gone over it but the stallion could give it a go if there was a mare. A more sensible animal doesn’t try
