Just a question. But please help!!!
What help would you expect in return for offering free diy livery.?

Why would you offer free DIY? If I was I would expect the person on livery to maybe look after my horses if say I was away etc, be willing to feed all horses as well as their own, stuff like that.

As I need help some mornings, feeding, turning out and sometimes bringing in depending on work, I was wondering how much I could ask someone to do in return for free diy livery. Keeping it fair. If you know what I meen.

I do YO's horses one - two weekends a month (she has 5) and I get free lessons from her and she helps me out for free (feeds, TO etc) which she charges other for, but I still pay for livery though....

Think of matuching the costs- how much would you have charged for the livery £100 per month? so think of getting £100 pounds worth of help. So based on £5.50 per hour thats about 16 hours work a month- so yeah feeding everymorning and turnong out and bringing in daily should be fine! I would certainly be happy to do that for DIY

I know what you mean. A couple on our yard work in return for their diy spot. DIY livery equates to roughly £30 per week (ish)?, so you could expect about 4-5 hours or so work in return for livery.

So depending on how many horses you have, that could be one full morning a week, t/o feeds & mucking quite a few stables to give you a day off, or t/o & feeds for a few mornings?

I do this for my YO. I have two horses on DIY and at weekends i do YO 5 plus the one full livery. It works out i'm on the same rate as the girl who works mon to fri but some how i seem to get it done much quicker and i do more odd jobs as well.

I do 5 mornings a week, 8 - 12 and in return I get full livery free (though because i'm working, I'm doing my own horses if that makes sense), and 1 lesson a week from the YO who is badminton rider....pretty good I think.

I muck out my YO's horses (she has 5) 2 set days a week and help out other days to bring in and feed if she isnt around. She also helps do mine if I am away with work etc... It works really well and saves me money

Be very careful - I had a lady keeping her horse here on DIY in exchange for help with jobs/maintenance around the place and it ended up badly. She didn't keep her side of the arrangement and I eventually asked her to leave. I would suggest you be VERY specific about what you want done and have it put in writing as having to nag people into maintaining their side of an agreement all the time can be very stressful. You might end up feeling a bit used.

Yes that is exactly what has happened. I help her out nearly as much as she does me, and she thinks she is doing me a favour!!! All I want is someone reliable and be prepared to keep her side of the bargain. And to add insult to injury she does s-d all in the summer. So a little bit extra to do in winter isn't to much to ask surely.
