What helps keep ponies warm??

Digestion of forage - the chemical reaction in this produces heat which keeps the horse warm - only know this as I read it in a Top Spec leaflet in the bath last night ;)

Eating hay. Approx 80% of horses warmth is I read provided by eating forage and digesting it - rugs only provide 20% max. Also if horse is used to being unrugged and field is reasonably sheltered they might even be colder in a rug as rugging stops their coat hairs fluffing up to create an insulating layer.
