What hoof supplements does anyone use? My horse is about to start 6 weeks off to let hooves grow/recover after numerous corn and infection issues.

New farrier didn't recommend a specific supplement but did suggest using one, I will ask him in more detail next week, but I'd be interested to hear what anyone uses and what they use it for.

Thanks!

I have tried 'em all!!! Farriers Formula, Pro feet, sea weed, you name it.

But I have just ordered comfrey from Windels Herbs, it was recommended to me by someone else plus I read this article. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/horsecare/article.php?aid=39686

I have actually bought it in the hope thar it will speed healing to a fractured pedal bone, but the blurb indicated it is good for feet generally. Costs £11.95 for a kg plus p+p..

Hope this helps........

Formula 4 feet is the only one that has worked on our lad.
It takes a while to get into their systems but *touches wood* with a good farrier and this he has stopped casting shoes every 2 or 3 weeks and the hoof is much much stronger and better looking. 2 years down the line his hooves are completely different no cracking or splits no chipping not dry or flakey. You need to give it about 3 months to really notice an improvement.

Forget Wendals herbs GS...

Just had a call from a very nice girl to say that they are out of stock and will be for at least 2 weeks possibly 4.

So I have abandoned the order!!

Formula 4 feet is good, I used that too.

And I'd be inclined to use Cornuscrence (sp?) as well, just paint it on especially the soles. It strengthens them no end.

Newmarket hoof supplement has transformed both my horses feet. I wouldn't try anything else. Give it a good 4-6 months though.

One of my TB mares came home from stud in January with a similar barage of problems in her front feet. Obviously, nothing fed orally is going to have an effect for some months to come so in the interim - once the corns and abscesses were well and truely drained and healed, I started applying Keratex Hoof Hardener to the soles once a week for 4 weeks, and applied it to the lower quarter of her outer hoof walls once a week, continuously. I simultaneously started applying good old fashion Cornucrescine Original Hoof Ointment around her coronet band daily to encourage growth, and made sure her feet were picked out religeously twice a day.

I already feed a balancer to all my horses, so she went onto that as soon as she arrived home from stud, and I feed 1/2 Kg FF linseed meal and 1/4 Kg BOSS in addition to the balancer for added coat and hoof condition. It definitely works.
