What horse is suitable to carry a woman 5'10 and weighs 11 stone

I think a thoroughbred would easily carry you. You might need to be looking at 16 hands or above because of your height. You would have to make sure you are capable of handling a thoroughbred as some can be forward going. It all depends on what you find and your capabilities. Good luck!

11 stone is light for a NH type TB. The tiniest of the flat horses you might feel tall on but still probably wouldn't be too heavy if it was an adult.

This, I have a 15.2 tb in the yard his owner is easily the best part of 11 stone and around 5ft 8in he carries her for long fittening hacks, runs off with her on the gallops and while she is a little leggy on him it is mainly due to the fact that he has been in full training all winter and was extremely fit and lean, once he has let down she will look fine on him. You certainly do not need a cob, get whatever type you want.

I wouldn't go for anything too small, as your height might make you feel a bit uncomfortable, but other than that I wouldn't try to plan on a specific breed - just try and ride as many different horses as you can and start to develop a "type". I'm 5'8" and until recently was at least 11 stone (and a bit!) and anything too fine or too narrow wasn't comfortable, but it didn't necessarily relate to breed.

Thoroughbred horses going round Aintree carry more than that.............
yes, but they are not carrying beginners, a good rider helps the horse and keeps in balance.
One thing I find is that I don't like about cobs is that I find it uncomfortable to have my legs wide,

I'm 5ft7.5 and just a smidge under 11 stone now (but was over!) and I own a rather loopy tb x Connemara who is about 15hh. I find that I tend to look tall before I feel it really and fairly recently attempted to under horse myself with a 14hh conny (who was skinnier than my mare!).

You'll find your height more restricting than your weight if I'm honest so look for something fairly chunky (not necessarily cobby though - my mare takes an XW saddle, and doesn't have an inch of cob) to take up your height but anything above 15/15.2 really.

At 11 stone you really don't need to worry - unless you plan on buying a 15hh fine tb with poor conformation. You should be fine on anything over 16hh that isn't too short coupled.

TBH, if you are new to horses, the best way forward is to be guided by a good RS and get as much experience riding as many different horses of different types as possible. There are very few healthy horses which would be unable to carry you - and many ponies would also be more than up to the task. Whether you would feel comfortable on them all is another matter and can only be determined by trial and error.

Think it's more about the horse that's underneath you and the way you ride it. I'm 5ft 9in and about 10'stone. Regularly used to ride a 15hh welsh D who rode better than the 16.1hh ex-eventer that was my usual ride!

It depends really, you could probably ride a wide 14.2 native and be fine weight wise, but I am 5'11 and heavier than you, I have a 15hh Haflinger, again she carries me fine, but I do wish she was taller! She mostly takes up my leg but I think I just feel more comfortable on a bigger horse with more neck in front of me!

Balance is a bit more important when you are a taller person on a smaller horse, as small movements in your weight balance have a greater impact than those of a petite person on a big horse, if that makes sense.

I'm the same height, but probably weigh a bit more. I endurance rode for years on Arabians (as you do) up to 160 km. I ride 14.3 hh to 16 hh without any issues at all, but I do have to admit when I ride for dressage 16 hh looks a whole lot better. I still ride the 14.3 hh - she is so much fun and we still do 40 km rides regularly.
