what horsey chores do you hate doing?

Eurgh wet, muddy rugs are the worst!

Used to hate trying to make my grey share horse look half presentable and eating into the precious daylight hours, she is a mud lover! My chap is not a lover of anything wet or muddy thank god!

I love it all apart from having to remove slugs and snails from everything can't get rid of them. Also having swallows for like 3months swooping at your head every time your in the stable lovely and I wouldn't change it but rather annoying. Oh and foxes digging massive holes in the field then falling down them whilst poo picking. :-)

I don't mind mucking out . . . but I hate when you turn with a forkfull of dirty bedding and hit something and it all falls off . . . don't know why, but it really, really irritates me.

P

I get so angry when this happens! I also hate it when surcingle clips catch on things that if you deliberately tried to catch them on it would take ages, but walk past in a rush and whoosh - you're stuck. This is especially enjoyable if the rug you're carrying is filthy and wet and you're trying to not hold it next to your body too much

Mucking out, so I don't, nothing stays in unless there is a very good reason for it.

Tack cleaning, don't do it, synthetic tack is great stuff.

Poo picking - again, don't do it. That is what harrows are for ;)

Sweeping the barn aisle. This I do just once a day, if the Boarders make a mess of it afterwards then they clear up, or my Barn Fairy does - because she is trying to find reasons not to go home to her apartment in the city.

FAO Nat: [pulling hay out of the big round bales!!! hate it! some days it comes out easy, but most days it takes forever to pull out 6-8kgs.]

I saw something the other day, on here I think, that you would love. A turntable for round bales!

Definitely cleaning and ragwort picking. Poo picking I find therapeutic (until it's muddy, wet and cold!)

The chore I always hate doing is cleaning the trailer out when I have used it and putting everything back. I want to go out, enjoy my ride/show, park trailer up, throw horse out and go home. None of this fiddling round cleaning up after nonsense.

Used to hate filling nets until we got a contraption that opens up like a clothes airer. You hang the net from hooks on each side and can then just chuck the hay in, lift the net off the hooks and slide out from under. Makes the whole job quick and easy and everyone on the yard now volunteers! However, no idea what it's called or where to get another one so sorry, not much help to those who hate it. I can't think it would be that hard to make one though - I can see a project for my OH coming on when I move yards...

fencing, i hate fending, either repairs or new fencing it does not matter i hate fencing especially in hot weather and especially knocking in the post with a ker-dunker(if you know what one of those is its a chocolate chip cookie for you:D
every thing else is ok or better though

Hate hay nets soooo much. tack cleaning doesn't really get done much as i hate it. and i hate in the thick of winter taking a wet muddy rug off to put stable ones on

Ditto to poo picking.
I invested in a twin wheeled wheelbarrow, which is great as I fill one a day to clear field, but the much heap is SOOOOOO far away... Have to walk through YO's garden, and I'm incredibly anti-social so 99% of the time I really don't want to see or speak to anyone... that's why I moved to my own yard, with no other liveries, cos I'm a miserable ol' b**ch.
:D

Gosh u sound just like me xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Emptying wheelbarrows and shovelling the muck to the top of the muck heap!! Hate it!! Lol.

I actually quite enjoy most chores - as long as it isn't on a big scale! I love mucking out and poo picking, time to myself! :D

For rolling bandages, I shake out then fold in half roughly & drape round my neck or over shoulder. I then roll whilst on the move & one handed while doing other small jobs that can be done one handed, eg feeds, waters, putting tools away etc.

You can roll bandages one handed? Massive skill!

Water... Filling up tanks takes hours..... Or bucketing water from trough to trough. Always manage to slop it down my jeans , bots and socks

Just buy a very large muck bucket. I keep one permanently in the hay barn. I put the net into the bucket, drape the open edge of the net over the rim of the bucket all the way around, fill the net, pull up the string and tie, and lift out of the bucket. Done and dusted. All these hay-filling products are expensive compared to a very large (or smaller, depending on your horse and net sizes) plastic tub.

I love it all, so sad! :D
Apart from emptying the pick up and cleaning the trailer out after a competition. OH bought me the trailer and makes me pressure wash it each time.
Oh, and getting out/putting away the pressure washer! Slimy cold hosepipe - eurgh!!

haynets and picking the poo up onto the muck heap especially when the flies are around!

also wet rug changing in the winter, nothing worse than a 7' wet, dirty/muddy HW rug to try and hang up.

Two different countries and dis-likes :p:D

UK - nothing now :D:p;)
Was the cold....and everything horsey associated with it!

Malta -
Is the heat....and everything horsey associated with it!

Poo picking as they only have paddocks which means poo picking everyday!!:(
Especially when you break your shavings fork and have to do it by hand!:(
Brushing/washing yard down...due to the ever multiplying birds (Roosters, chickens, ducks and pigeon) that roam free :mad: Annoyingly more so when i slip and fall, because and on it!
Haynets - no grass over here for 9 months of the year so he has 3 a day - mixed! :(

I also hate haynets - my mare has hers in a rack or on the floor usually but tomorrow i have to fill four nets because my sisters horse is going to a show on thursday. I like everything else though, just can't stand haynet filling :p

This annoys me so much! Always happens to me :(

I don't mind most chores - even though I work on a yard! But my pet hate is changing 20-odd rugs to turn out and then 2 hours later bringing them all back in and changing rugs back again! Also filling haylage barrows when it's a rich, wet, smelly bale
