Putting up a new stretch of electric fence, using old tape or wire that I have coiled up carefully when I took it down, but has magically knotted itself up in a million ways whilst stored! Aargh
Stacking bales! In the case of hay, it will invariably be on the hottest day of the year! I usually try and scive out of this as I'm so feeble by offering to fetch ice cold drinks for the chaps.
I have given up using stable rugs with no detriment to the horses. They come in and if there is going to be a marked change in temperature I will add a layer, otherwise they stay in their turnout rugs. This saves a lot of time and avoids putting cold rugs on grumpy horses who are already nice and warm in their dual purpose rugs.
Leading about 550kg of greedy, impatient cob from her winter field to her cosy stable. This year will be down hill too - not good! The 'wait training' has begun! Also, the moment you leave the car but are not yet on the yard - wet, wind, dark, urgh.
personally i love filling haynets! - though may be that cos the haylage ive got is so nice
putting a new bale of shavings in a bed...... get covered in dust...... then get wet! e.g. rain..... then put another bale in another bed...its like a thick extra skin, cant wipe it off, sticks to EVERYTHING, gets everywhere..... and in the shower....... comes off brown! eeeeewwwwww
running from the house to car.... thn car to stables in the pouring rain and wind...... feel like 'why am i bothering?' soaked even before ive touched a horse!
I hate carrying full water buckets - my stables are furthest from the tap!
I hate the walk to/from the fields- even though mine are not the furthest, they're far enough, and when I am turning out whilst late for work they are completely and utterly too far!
I hate brushing a dusty and/or moulting horse and getting covered in it.
I don't mind poo-picking, I like observing my horses "free" time whilst I am in the field and it can be a nice opportunity to interact with them, but I hate pushing the full wheelbarrow back up the track to the midden.
I don't mind mucking out (even though it feels like groundhog day again and again, horses must think we're bl**dy mad following them round feeding them and cleaning up after them!!!) and I don't mind doing haynets, in fact apart from the above list I think I love everything else, the good bits far far far outweigh the bad bits!!!
Hay carting! Urggghh I hate how it usually coincides with the hottest, windiest day so you become all hot a sweaty with bits of hay blowing everywhere! Loading and unloading hundreds of bales, purely for your horses enjoyment!
Also dealing with anything wet and muddy. If they are covered in mud, I hose their legs off rather than brush
1.Ragwort Weeding
2. Poo picking mind you I try to use my little tractors bucket to drag it in to piles !
3. Picking out burs from my boys main I wasted 1hr today doing such a waste of time.
I hate cleaning tack but love poo picking - maybe I should be looking at trading chores. Unfortunately they don't poo pick at my yard, so there's no swop opportunities at home
