What horsey story books did you read to your children?

i loved read black beauty to my daughter and i remember tears in eyes as i read the part where ginger died and daughter looking up then squeezed my hand. still makes me cry and read book hundreds of times

We started with Sheltie the Shetland Pony and the Pony Mad Princess series by Diana Kimpton. More recently I have read The Diddakoi by Rumer Godden and Silver Snaffles by Primrose Cumming to them, one chapter at a time at bedtime, which was a huge success (10 year old daughter and 8 year old son). Daughter likes reading the Stacey Gregg Pony Club Secrets series and Pippa Funnell's Tilly's Pony Tales, and my son has just finished reading Mylor the Most Powerful Horse in the World and is now onto the sequel - Mylor, The Kidnapp!

I don't have children but should I decide to breed I would like to read them Black Beauty.

We have a really old edition (1940s) that I rescued after my sister put it in the rubbish pile (still can't believe she did that!) I love it, the cover is faded green fabric and all the pages are yellowed!

The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse, and another for BB. My daughter was a bit too young and I had to blag it when I got to the fire, I'd forgotten how harrowing that bit was.

Heartland was/is my ultimate favourite, I still read them now!

I also really enjoyed the Sandy Lane stables series (still read those to!) and the Saddle Club :)

Moorland Mousie, Older Mousie, Sons of Skewbald - she loved them - even tho they were 'old' when my gran read them to me.
She also enjoyed the Mary O'hara books; Flicker, Thunderhead, Green Grass of Wyoming - and all my Pullein Thompson & Ruby Fergusons too.

My neighbours daughter is loving the Magic Pony books at present :)

I read Black Beauty to my daughter and also a really old picture book called Doodlebug about a black Hackney pony
When she could read independently she loved the Heartland series and she read KM Peyton books too. I tried to get her to read Black Stallion series but she never took to it.
