Hi, i am really confused about which hunter class my boy would fit into; i just found out last night that his dad is one of the best show connemaras in england; dark stranger and his mum is a hickestead winning TB X ID :D:D:D
So i would love to do some showing with him, but am a bit confuzzled about which hunter class !, okay so hes 15.2hh, Connnemara X ID X TB, i was thinking maybe - Ladies & Small Hunters ? i dont want to do working hunter with him yet so just flat work classes please, i have attached some pics of him to give you an idea of his build.

Thanks.

He's lovely so long as he measures in(affiliated hight limit is 15.2)he'd be a small hunter, think he might look dwarfed in the 3 Weight classes, you could also do ladies which is sidesaddle however If he carries one go for it. :)

Loving your boy! The only one I've seen with the same breeding as my girl (though swap mum (show connie) and dads (ISH son of Clover Hill) breed around!).

With mine I am planning on small hunter. I believe it should be more of a mini medium weight hunter with shorter cannon bones, nice deep chest and a good bum, which I think my girl is, and your chap looks v similar in terms of build. He really is gorgeous, such a sweet face too!

I found this page handy to try and make sense of all the different breeds! http://www.theshowring.co.uk/hunters.php
It seems unless you do small hunter, size will count against the smaller horse. Some of the hunters that are shown around here are absolutly huge! I wouldn't want to actually hunt them as if you got off, you'd never get back on in a month of sundays!!!

Thank-you very much for your replies, i am abit worried height wise as he is only 6 and may grow another inch or two and he is already 15.2 so will not be a "small hunter".

Do you rekon their are any other showing classes which he would suit ?
Thanks !

tbh for lcaal level just try a load of classes out and see what the judges say - he'd def be a small hunter - but worth trying other classes too - my inbetween hunter (in sig - doesn't fit into any hunter bracket well lol) has also come 3rd out of 20 in ridden horse rather randomly lol!!
but her forte is really WH - alas i'm too whimpy to do the open classes :o even though every judge says i should :o

Definitely go and get a height cert and do small hunters, he's lovely. They have to have 2 measurements to make a life height, so even if he did grow (which I think is unlikely) the first measurement would allow you to do small's this year. He will look tiny in the weight classes.
I don't know how old you are but you can also do intermidiate show hunter classes for under 25's I think? BSPS/Ponies UK etc have classes for intermediates.

He's lovely! I'd also suggest getting a height cert for him and trying him as a Small Hunter. Agree also that if you are under 25 he would be a great intermediate too. If he's a registered part-bred Connemara you may find some great classes for him at some of the breed shows. Best of luck!
